Move over Die Hard, as there's a new festive thriller in town and Netflix viewers can't get enough of it.

There are definite similarities between the Bruce Willis Christmas classic (it's a Christmas film, no arguing!) and the new movie on Netflix that has got fans raving.

Starring Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman, viewers have given it a '10/10' and claim to have watched it twice already.

Not bad, considering it only hit the streaming platform on December 13.

Called Carry-On, it's led by The Shallows director Jaume Collet-Serra, and just like the famous John McClane flick the film is set on Christmas Eve.

Rocketman star Egerton plays a transportation security agent (TSA) Ethan Kopek.

He finds himself blackmailed by Bateman’s mysterious character, Traveler.

He wants Ethan to help him smuggle some dangerous items onto a Christmas flight and isn't afraid to threaten him in the process.

Taron praised his co-star and the strange way they had to film, telling ScreenRant: "Jason was amazing. He did a couple of days with me where he actually provided the voice, and he was there recording live with me, and that was a real luxury. The rest of the time I recorded it with an actor."

The Netflix synopsis of Carry-On reads: "A crowded airport. A dangerous suitcase. A mysterious criminal mastermind."

It continues: "On Christmas Eve, a security officer faces the ultimate travel nightmare."

So far it has already received an 86 percent rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics, and fans have called it 'outstanding'.

Sharing a photo of the film on the Netflix Bangers Facebook group, one viewer wrote: "Definitely a 10/10… have you guys seen this movie yet?"

"It's like Die Hard but with a TSA agent, really enjoyed it!" a second commented.

"Best movie I've seen on Netflix for a long time!" praised someone else.

"Outstanding! A 10!" raved one person, while another viewer on Twitter is hoping for a sequel.

"Very, very well done! Definitely gives me the Die Hard vibes and that’s an absolute compliment. Possibly room for another one?" they asked hopefully.

They're not alone in wanting a follow-up either, as another fan suggested: "Cool movie, reminds me a 90’s action movie. Really liked it, hope there is a second next year. And yes for me it's like Die Hard an xmas movie."

The film also stars Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler and Logan Marshall-Green.

It was written by TJ Fixman, and it was originally intended to be the first film released for Netflix's deal with Steven Spielberg's production company, Amblin Partners.

The release ended up being delayed due to script rewrites, but judging by the reaction of fans it was well worth the wait.

You can stream Carry-On on Netflix now.
