Played by Zahn McClarnon, he is joined on the main cast by Jessica Matten and Kiowa Gordon, who make up the local police force investigating a set of gruesome murders.

The show, called Dark Winds, features a cast that is 95 percent indigenous according to the Los Angeles Times, as is the production crew behind it.

The success and rave reviews has even led to a third season already being green-lit.

    Reviews

Dark Winds not only has a perfect 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes (on both of the show’s two seasons), but an impressive score of 7.7 on IMDb.

IndieWire gave the show a score of A, with Kristen Lopez saying: “Dark Winds may seem similar to other detective shows but it’s more than that.

“With well-written and sharply defined characters, plus an invigorating and tightly wound story, it’ll be hard to wait a week for each episode to drop.”

Judy Berman, of TIME Magazine, meanwhile said: “Gripping, gorgeously shot and propelled by superb performances, Dark Winds is a very good show that also happens to be very important.”

Clint Worthington, of RogerEbert.com, said: “A heartfelt and accomplished thriller that doubles as a proof of concept for Camel Rock Studios’ ability to tell Native stories in popular television genres”.

One 10/10 review on IMDb said the show was ‘as good as television gets’.

They went on to say: “This adaptation of Hillerman's characters works at every level one expects from really good television.

“The writing, acting, editing and cinematography all deserve recognition. The Dine world experience vividly, honestly and kindly created, within a 'thriller' police format makes a compelling series. A great binge.”

You can watch Dark Winds on Netflix or AMC+ now.
