Netflix has dropped a start-studded new title in time for the festive season, but it hasn't quite hit the mark as it's been branded the 'worst movie of all time'.

It's a bold claim in a world where people can make movies using their own phones, but one Netflix user obviously thought it was fitting.

With the temperatures dropping and the calendar creeping ever closer to December, all people want to do is curl up on the sofa with a good movie.

We want festive cheer, holiday-related jokes and heartwarming stories; and Netflix's new movie attempted to deliver the 'best', with the likes of Heather Graham, Brandy Norwood and American Pie's Jason Biggs in starring roles.

Best. Christmas. Ever! arrived on the streaming service earlier this month with the story of two longtime frenemies who are reunited over Christmas.

"Every Christmas, Jackie (Brandy) sends a boastful holiday newsletter that makes her old college friend Charlotte (Graham) feel like a lump of coal," Netflix's Tudum explains.

The synopsis continues: "But when Charlotte lands on Jackie’s snowy doorstep just days before Christmas, she seizes the opportunity to prove her old friend’s life can’t possibly be that perfect."

It's the type of comedy that, while maybe not the most original, you expect to escape into for a few hours of comfort and easy watching.

Unfortunately, the film has instead led viewers to run to social media with complaints.

"On a scale of 1-10, the new Netflix movie ‘Best. Christmas. Ever!’ is the worst movie of all time," one viewer wrote after watching the film.

Another commented: "Best Christmas Ever on Netflix. No. Just no. I am not grateful for this movie."

"Who green lit Best Christmas ever on Netflix? And is this person still employed? It’s the most unhinged movie I’ve ever watched. #BestChristmasEver," another critic added.

And the poor reviews don't end there, with Best. Christmas. Ever! scoring just 41 percent on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer - making it 'certified rotten' - and an even worse Audience Score of 19 percent.

It's disappointing to see the poor reviews at a time when we need some new entertainment to see us through the festive season, but if you find yourself really struggling for something to watch, there are actually some people who believe Best. Christmas. Ever! is worth a go.

One more positive review reads: "Best. Christmas. Ever. Netflix. It’s corny, cheesy, and goofy when trying to be charming.

"It’s perfect as a Christmas movie to enjoy with kids & adults who know Brandy, Heather Graham, Jason Biggs. Easy to watch when you’re stuffed full of holiday food, sweets, & drinks."

The movie might be the go-to choice after you've had a few glasses of wine, or maybe even just out of curiosity for why people have rated it so poorly.

Either way, if you don't like it, don't say I didn't warn you.
