‘Absolutely beautiful’ Netflix miniseries leaves fans crying ‘big ugly tears for days' after watching

It's a 'tear-jerker and a heart-warmer', according to viewers

A Netflix miniseries based on a real-life story has stayed with viewers long after watching, leaving them 'ugly crying' for days afterwards.

We all need a good, cleansing weep sometimes - and a tear-inducing TV drama might just help you get that cathartic release.

The streamer is packed with thousands of titles, from this series which makes the 'perfect' half-day binge to a new documentary about infamous fitness influencer, the Liver King.

But if you're in the mood for some romance and escapism - with a dose of deep sadness - then stick this on your Netflix watch list.

We head over to Europe - namely, Italy - for the heart-wrenching series, which has eight episodes.

It follows American law student Amy (Zoe Saldaña), who decides to take a break from her studies and explore her passion for art in Florence, against her parents' wishes.

There, she meets Sicilian chef Lino (Eugenio Mastrandrea) - a like-minded soul who's strayed from his family's farmer lineage to pursue a culinary career instead.

Sparks fly as the pair discover they have even more in common than they first realized.

But Lino's family disapprove of Amy, while her parents pressure her to return to the States and continue training as a lawyer.

Drama aside, the pair's relationship goes from strength to strength and they eventually get married, with both families stepping up to share the special day.

Yet their worlds are ripped apart when they receive some bad news.

The series, released in 2022, is called From Scratch and is based on the 2019 memoir of the same name written by Tembi Locke.

Rotten Tomatoes critics called it 'a buoyant and wistful romance', adding: "From Scratch is an emotionally resonant miniseries that benefits from its Italian scenery and Zoe Saldaña's considerable dramatic chops."

The series racked up a score of 86 percent from both viewers and critics.

One fan candidly wrote: "Absolutely beautiful. Cried so much I got a headache."

A second agreed: "Quite traumatic in parts, but a beautiful story and beautiful scenes of Florence and Sicily, a tear-jerker and a heart-warmer!"

And the praise continued over on Reddit, where one user recently asked for recommendations on the 'saddest' TV series people had ever seen.

One person simply responded: "From Scratch."

Another replied: "The way I bawled my eyes out for days after watching this series. It’s really stuck with me".

A third chipped in: "Right? Big ugly tears."

While a fourth reckoned: "And From Scratch is sad so many times! So consistently sad!"

Don't let that put you off, though...

From Scratch is streaming now on Netflix.
