Viewers are flooding to social media in awe after watching 'a work of art' psychological thriller on Netflix.

If you've already watched a 'masterpiece' sci-fi series from the same creators as Game of Thrones and Jennifer Lopez's sci-fi, then buckle up and prepare for 'a psychological thriller that shows the real face of humanity'.

Prepare to add the film straight to your 'To Watch' list:

Synopsis, cast and crew

The 2019 sci-fi horror's screenplay was written by David Desola and Pedro Rivero, produced by Carlos Juárez and directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia.

It stars the likes of Iván Massagué, Antonia San Juan, Zorion Eguileor and Emilio Buale Coka.

The story centers around a tower known as the 'Vertical Self-Management Center', which houses floors of prisoners who get fed via a slab of food that gets lowered floor-by-floor resulting in those at the top getting fed and those at the bottom growing desperate.

But what will happen when those at the bottom realise they've had enough - will they unite and try and rise up together?

Despite premiering at Toronto's Internal Film Festival in 2019 and being released onto Netflix in 2020, some of the streaming service's subscribers are only just discovering the film - titled The Platform - for the first time and are flocking to social media in appreciation.

Reviews

The Platform has achieved a solid Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 73 percent and a Tomatometer score of 80 percent.

And it's even made its way onto LADbible's Facebook page Netflix Bangers, with a viewer sharing news of a sequel.

One user wrote: "First one was nice, put me in a little depression."

"It's a psychological thriller. It met the expectations I had, I liked it. It's messed up and gross, that's kind in the scope of that genre," another added.

And the love for the film has spilled onto Twitter too.

One user wrote: "If you loved Parasite please watch The Platform. Watch it if you like Bong Joon Ho‘s films, if you hate capitalism, if you love horror films, if you’re bored, if you support socialism or if you’ve run out of stuff to watch. Just watch #ThePlatform."

"Highly recommending THE PLATFORM movie on netflix. A psychological thriller that shows the real face of humanity — the corrupt world, government, and the levels of social classes we have. The movie itself is a work of art. But if you don’t like open endings, it ain’t for you," a second added.

A third resolved: "#ThePlatform might just be my favourite movie of 2020 thus far. With such a deep, underlining message while disturbingly psychological and gruesome yet not to unnecessary lengths. While being intriguing and every frame is absolutely gorgeous, this is a Netflix movie not to miss."

And it's good news if you've made space in your calendar to watch The Platform - or have already seen it - because a sequel has just been announced and is set for release later this very year.

The Platform is available to watch on Netflix now.
