Netflix has released a new series starring Sofia Vergara, and everyone is saying the same thing about her performance.

Vergara plays the notorious Colombian crime lord Griselda Blanco in the new Netflix drama, Griselda.

It follows Griselda's life, including her role as one of the biggest drug lords in Miami.

So far, the series has gone down well and viewers have had a lot to say about the dramatic and exciting story.

But one thing seems to be on everyone's minds after watching the drama - and perhaps unsurprisingly it concerns the show's star, Vergara.

Viewers have been left extremely impressed with her performance as the drug lord, known as 'The Black Widow'.

So much so that many of them are even suggesting that she should be nominated for an award on the basis of her performance.

Many of the show's fans went onto to social media to share their views, with praise for Vergara's performance being a common theme.

Taking to social media, one person wrote: "Finished watching #Griselda on Netflix. Congrats to @SofiaVergara for a powerful acting role as it's her best to date. She deserves an Emmy for this role and I hope she gets it as she went out of her comfort zone and did a great job on the show."

Another praised both the show and Vergara's performance, writing: "This show is complex and brutal. I feel @SofiaVergara will win her first Emmy with this incredible performance. Bravo."

A third echoed the sentiment, posting: "Sofia Vergara is gunning for an award with this performance!"

Vergara leads a stellar cast including Alberto Guerra (Narcos: Mexico), Martín Rodríguez, Juliana Aidén Martinez (The Blacklist), Vanessa Ferlito (NCIS: New Orleans) and Christian Tappan (Snowfall).

The real life Griselda had a massive impact on the drug trade in the 1970s and 80s.

After growing up in Medellin, Colombia, she began a drugs operation in New York before moving the operation to Miami.

There her drug empire grew enormous, and she went on to become a critical figure in the Miami Drug Wars of the 70s and 80s, nicknamed the 'Cocaine Cowboy Wars'.

Eventually she was caught and sentenced to just 15 years in jail in 1985, with prosecutors pursuing further charges while she was in prison.

She was released in 2004 and deported to Colombia, where she lived until 2012 when she was shot dead by an unknown gunman on a motorbike while leaving a butcher's shop.

Griselda is available to stream on Netflix now.
