Fans of crime shows are sharing the latest series they are finding impossible to tear themselves away from, and it's good news for fans as another season is coming.

There's no shortage of things to choose from on streaming services, so many that you can often find yourself spoilt for choice as you try to find something to watch.

But if the testimony of these viewers is anything to go by, then it could mean next time you won't need to scroll through so long that your dinner goes cold.

Sometimes you need a show which is just easy watching, with simple plots and enough intrigue that you can sit back, relax, and enjoy it.

Like many such programmes the show has a simple 'fish out of water' premise, as the central character struggles to get to grips with a new set of challenges.

The show has proven popular with audiences, and takes a new premise to a classic show format - the police procedural.

So what is this show that viewers can't get enough of?

It's The Rookie, featuring Firefly star Nathan Fillion in the title role.

For those who haven't seen it, here's a flavour of what you can expect if you decide to give The Rookie a go.

The show follows John Nolan, a man in his 40s who becomes the youngest rookie cop in the LAPD.

Fillion joins a main cast including Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Titus Makin, Mercedes Mason, and Melissa O'Neil among many others.

It follows Nolan's journey after he helps to stop a bank robbery before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a new career in the LAPD.

The series is based on the premise that the LAPD is one of the few police forces in the US to accept new recruits over the age of 37.

People shared their thoughts on the show in the Facebook group Netflix Bangers.

One wrote: "It was amazing the first season and a half then became far too unrealistic for me."

Another posted: "I liked the sense of it being a legit cop show, but with a good storyline. Now it seems SO unrealistic and out of depth."

A third person posted: "Am on the last season, I don’t want it to end."

It seems that the third person might just be in luck as an all new season of the popular show is in the works.

This will be the seventh season of the show in total, with several original cast members rumoured to be returning according to a report from Screenrant.

A post by Mekia Cox to Instagram showed several members of the cast sharing a moment on set together, captioned 'Day 1 of The Rookie Season 7'.

Further details on the upcoming series are few and far between, with a release date yet to be confirmed.
