When you spend time getting stuck into a book, it's not often that a film version gets the characters exactly as you pictured them in your head.

Often there can be huge differences and even total story changes when a movie version of your favourite novel is made.

For The Hunger Games, readers of the original series by Suzanne Collins might have had in their head their own version of Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mallark and Gale Hawthorne.

Yet it might not have measured up against the film versions, which were released from 2012 starring Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson.

Now, AI has created versions of the characters based on the book description, and readers are shook by how different they look. Watch the video here:

Katniss Everdeen

For lead character Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence in the films, the Ai version sees her look much younger. Lawrence has brown hair in a single braid and blue eyes as she plays Katniss, yet in the books the young hero is described as having black hair, olive-toned skin, grey eyes and being quite small.

Peeta Mellark

For love interest Peeta, we know him as the Josh Hutcherson version with blonde hair, chiselled looks and brown eyes. Yet the book has him described differently, and the AI version sees him looking much younger than the film version and with longer blonde hair and blue eyes.

Gale Hawthorne

The movie version of Gale is played by Aussie Liam Hemsworth with his muscular frame and chiselled looks. Yet in the books, readers would have pictured him differently due to the story having him down as having dark hair and olive skin with grey eyes, and also noted as 'too handsome' and 'too male.'

The Ai version shows him looking dark like Katniss, with his darker skin, longer darker hair with dark brown eyes and a narrow face.

President Snow

This is one that AI, the books and films all seem to be in agreement for. The books describe him as a small and thin man, with 'paper white' hair, thick lips and eyes 'similar to a snake'.

Played by the late Donald Sutherland, the AI version and film version are pretty interchangeable although the digital version looks just a tad older.

Haymitch Abernathy

Haymitch is portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the films and with his blue eyes and long blonde hair, he's a world away from the book version.

The book details him being overweight but with good looks thanks to his dark curly hair and bright grey eyes.

The AI version is a third version of this character, and pictures him with grey hair and darker skin with blue eyes.

Finnick Odair

In the films Finnick Odair is a bit of eye candy, played by Sam Claflin. In the books he's described as a bit of a hunk, and said to be 'athletic and chiseled' with tanned skin, bronze hair and 'stunning sea-green eyes' - and the AI version is pretty similar.
