A screenwriter on the Back to the Future trilogy has issued a savage statement to fans still hoping for a fourth movie.

There's no doubt the famed sci-fi classic is one of the best trilogies out there, and it even holds up extremely well to this day.

The original, which released way back in July 1985, followed teenager Marty McFly (Michael J Fox) and scientist Dr Emmett ‘Doc’ Brown (Christopher Lloyd).

Throughout three movies, the pair go to the far future where flying cars are a thing, and to the far past of the wild west.

A sequel to the original released in 1989, wile Back to the Future: III debuted in 1990.

The franchise is loved so much even a Broadway musical has been showing in London and other parts of the world for a few years now.

To put it simply, the Back to the Future series is loved by millions across the globe, and even though the last film released 35 years ago, some have given up hope of another sequel.

However, screenwriter Bob Gale, who worked alongside co-creator Robert Zemeckis on the franchise, has recently shut down any hope.

According to a report by Yahoo Entertainment, Gale appeared backstage at the Saturn Awards in Los Angeles after collecting the George Pal Memorial Award when he was asked if 'Back to the Future 4' could be made.

"People always say, ‘When are you going to do ‘Back to the Future 4’ and we say, ‘F*ck you,’” Gale responded.

I mean, that certainly puts any speculation to bed.

The veteran screenwriter did note Back to the Future currently has its broadway scene, which I would 100 percent recommend going to see if you're a fan of the movies.

On top of that, Gale spoke about plans for a stage production of the franchise on Royal Caribbean Cruises, which would certainly be epic.

"So, my God, ‘Back to the Future,’ I’m going to be doing it for the rest of my life," he added.

It appears that fans are not alone in wanting another Back to the Future movie, with franchise director Zemeckis claiming even Universal begs him 'every couple years' to make 'Back to the Future 4'.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the filmmaker said: "You know, we have to say, ‘There are different things that might work.’ Something like that, you know? But to remake the movie or to suggest that there’s a ‘Back to the Future 4,’ it just isn’t in the cards."
