A new sitcom has dropped and it's already being dubbed as the best of the year.
Probably a format that's been in desperate need of a refresher for some time, the sitcom is a TV staple, and yet, it often feels like newer shows fail to live up to the predecessors that came before them.
We've all been in a situation where we've wanted to watch something to make us laugh. And we've all aimlessly scrolled through Netflix only to end up rewatching an episode of Friends or Modern Family.

While newer additions like Abbott Elementary seem to be diamonds in the rough, a recent show that dropped this week has viewers believing that classic comedy is back.
From FX, English Teacher is a new sitcom-style show streaming on Hulu (or Disney+) that follows a gay high school English teacher in Austin, Texas as he tries to balance the personal, political, and professional corners of his life.
Played by Brian Jordan Alvarez, Evan is the school's try-hard English teacher trying to inspire his students and fellow educators, while evidently meeting some hilarious obstacles along the way.

From old-school gym teachers to loud-mouthed teenagers, English Teacher is a hilariously heartfelt look into the daily life of educators set against a backdrop of a modern-day, skibidi-obsessed generation.
While the show has been met with rave reviews from critics, Time Magazine went so far as to call it the 'year's best new sitcom,' viewers also seem to be greatly enjoying the show.

One user on Twitter wrote, "Just finished watching the first two episodes of English Teacher and realized the war on comedy has not been successful and maybe comedy isn't dead."
Another added, "English Teacher is everything I have ever wanted from a TV show about a gay English teacher. It has changed my life and there are only two episodes so far."
"It's been 5 minutes I'm immediately convinced that English Teacher is the new comedy begging all of you on here to get on it," said another.

The show is currently comfortably resting at a 97 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, despite only having two episodes out, and seems to be only going upwards from there.
English Teacher's first two episodes premiered on September 2 and are currently available to stream. New episodes drop every Monday on FX, and are available to stream on Hulu the next day.
