An iconic Harry Potter star has thrown his name in the ring to play a different character in the upcoming TV show.
The new Harry Potter television series, which is slated to release sometime in 2026, is expected to go on for as long as a decade.
News of the series was confirmed last year at the Warner Bros. Discovery presentation, as chairman and CEO of HBO & Max Content Casey Bloys confirmed: "We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way.
"Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it is clear there is such an enduring love and thirst for the Wizarding World.

"In partnership with Warner Bros. Television and J.K. Rowling, this new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years."
Speculation has mounted in recent weeks as to who could play the iconic roles, even since HBO launched an open casting call to find the next Harry Potter, Hermione and Ron.
Many are under the assumption Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint have slightly aged out of their roles, but could any stars from the original movies make a return?

Gary Oldman, who featured as Sirius Black in the films, believes he can come back as no other than Dumbledore himself.
Sitting down with Indiewire, Oldman conceded that ‘no one’ has approached him to return as Sirius for the reboot, but he would certainly be open for making a comeback in the world of Harry Potter.
"I love Sirius. He wasn’t in it enough. He turned up and then he went through the veil," he said. "I would bet my money that they will get a whole new cast of people.
“Maybe in a few years, I could do Dumbledore," he added, while clarifying he doesn't expect to play Sirius Black again.

Professor Dumbledore was played by Richard Harris in the first two films - but after he sadly passed away, Michael Gambon took over the role for the six remaining films. Gambon died last year at the age of 82.
Of course, OG fans want to see Radcliffe return as Harry Potter, though that seems highly unlikely at this stage.
Radcliffe has previously said: "My understanding is that they’re trying to very much start fresh and I’m sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere.

“I’m definitely not seeking it out in any way. But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I’m very excited to have that torch passed.
“But I don’t think it needs me to physically pass it.”
