House of the Dragon viewers left sobbing after noticing small detail as prominent character is killed off

House of The Dragon's latest episode has viewers feeling like it's 2013 after a huge character is killed in a dramatic dragon battle.

House of the Dragon, HBO's Games of Thrones spin-off, has once again shattered the hearts of millions of viewers worldwide in its latest episode, which was released on yesterday (July 7).

The show, which is based George R.R Martin's Fire & Blood, follows the historic civil war known as 'The Dance of the Dragons' between Rhaenyra Targaryen and her half brother, Aegon Targaryen.

Last week, viewers were left speechless by a full-frontal nude shot, but this time, it's for a much different reason.

Despite numerous attempts of reconciliation, the war between the Blacks and the Greens has officially begun as viewers were treated to their first dragon battle of the series - however, anyone who has read the book will know that it's not something to be happy about.

Sadly, the battle over Rook's Rest led to the death of Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) and her dragon Meleys.

Though the Queen Who Never Was put up a brave fight, she ultimately couldn't stand up against Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) and his powerhouse of a dragon, Vhagar.

And Rhaenys' and Meleys' death was enough to rock X, however, one user made a point of noting their last exchange.

"That last look Meleys gave to Rhaenys...I just felt like it was an apology and a goodbye wrapped up in one." they wrote.

"'I'm sorry I couldn't protect you. I'm sorry I failed. Goodbye'."

But they weren't done there, adding: "The worst part of it though is that Meleys dies before Rhaenys so Rhaenys not only has to fall to her death, she has to deal with that broken bond as well.

"Kinda wanna throw up now."

In response, one person commented: "I hate you. OMG I cried so freaking much for them."

While another likened the episode to the 'Red Wedding', adding: "This remind me of Catelyn Stark, the minute Rob died she died with him, when they slice her neck there is nothing but a shell there.

"I feel Rhaenys went through the same thing with Meleys, once her girl died she died on the inside too."

Since the episode, viewers have shared their sadness over Rhaenys' death.

One viewer wrote: "RHAENYS TARGARYEN THE F**KING LEGEND YOU ARE WE WILL MISS YOU QUEEN."

Another said: "RIP to the baddest to ever do it. A true Queen, Rhaenys Targaryen."

I know it makes great TV, but House of the Dragon writers - leave our dragons alone!
