Jacob Elordi has revealed that he turned down the opportunity to read for Superman - and people are very confused why.
Superman was previously played by The Witcher star Henry Cavill and, while the 40-year-old and his fans were under the impression he was going to reprise his role as Clark Kent following his cameo in Black Adam, it was later revealed that Cavill wouldn't be returning as the DC Comics character after all.
Director James Gunn addressed the matter on social media and penned late last year: "In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman's life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill."

With this in mind, there's been a lot of speculation surrounding who will play young Superman, and apparently Elordi was asked if he'd like to read for the role.
But the 26-year-old Aussie said no, labeling the character as being 'too dark'.
"They asked me to read for Superman," he told GQ Magazine.

"That was immediately, ‘No, thank you.' That’s too much. That’s too dark for me."
His response has left people baffled as the actor shot to fame on one of TV's darkest and emotional series to date - Euphoria.
The critically acclaimed show is about 'a group of high school students [that] struggle with drugs, love, social media and money as they come of age while trying to establish their identity'.
People have been quick to point out Elordi's confusing comments.

"Too dark for Superman but he’s in Euphoria," a confused individual said on X.
"His role in Euphoria def darker than the Superman role. What he on about?" questioned another.
A third went on: "Too dark?? He literally played Nate in Euphoria..it doesn’t get darker than that [sic]."
Elsewhere, others noted that Superman is one of the least dark roles you can probably have in the DC Universe, with one person calling the character the 'Boy Scout of superheroes'.

Others joked that maybe Elordi has only seen the Zack Snyder cut of Superman.
"He watched one Snyder flick and made his mind up," one X user quipped.
"Bro thought he was reading for Snyder Superman," joked a second.

It was evident that Cavill was disappointed he wouldn't be properly returning to the role of Superman, but he simply said 'that's life'.
"I will, after all, not be returning as Superman," he wrote in a post to social media at the time.
"After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life," Cavill continued.
"The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes."
You'll always be our Superman, Henry!
