Fans are in tears over Jenna Ortega’s heartbreakingly sweet final interaction with Cameron Boyce before he died.

The actor told the story while promoting her new film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, with their final interaction seeing Boyce stand up for the young actor.

The pair knew each other from when Ortega was '11 or 12,' with the duo both becoming famous initially through their roles on the Disney channel.

Ortega made her name starring in Bizardvark alongside her co-star Jake Paul, while Boyce is most well-known for the Descendants series and Jessie.

In an interview with French TV outlet Canal+ Ortega revealed that one of the last times they saw each other was in an audition together.

This took place, according to Ortega, when she was 15 or 16, which would have meant Boyce was around 18 or 19.

She described how a casting agent had requested the two kiss for the audition, with Boyce vetoing this.

She said: “The last time I saw my friend Cameron Boyce — I'd known him since I was like 11 or 12, and we were supposed to kiss and he knew me since I was 11 or 12.

“This is a few years later, 15, 16, [we] came in, we were supposed to be love interests.

“But because he obviously felt weird and he was a bit older, he was like — we both just kinda looked at each other and we were like, 'No, we can't do this.’”

“And it was so sweet because I was uncomfortable and I was having a hard time. .. And then, we wished each other well.”

Catherine O’Hara, who joined Ortega in the interview, called Boyce a ‘gentleman,’ which Ortega concurred on.

Fans have been emotional about the exchange, with many still feeling heartbroken around Boyce’s early passing.

The actor, who has been spoken about in glowing terms by all his Disney channel cast members, died aged just 20 in 2019.

He died in his sleep after suffering a seizure.

One fan tweeted about the Ortega interview: “He really was such a gentleman- a very sad loss to the world.”

Another pointed to the uncomfortable situation, saying: “That's a really sweet memory of Cameron.

“It's also disappointing that it was up to Jenna and Cameron, the kids in the situation to acknowledge that something was weird. Where were the adults?”

A third said: “He was so rare, him being gone hits every single day.”
