People are flocking online to review-bomb one of Jennifer Lawrence's worst-rated movies despite it coming out over seven years ago.

Some actors may hope that if they churn out a lot of movies, the bad ones will likely be forgotten about and only the good ones will remain as standouts. Unfortunately for Jennifer Lawrence, this apparently isn't the case - even nearly a decade on.

Cast, crew and synopsis

The sci-fi romance was written by Jon Spaihts (best known for co-writing Dune) and was directed by Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game).

It stars not only J Law , but Chris Pratt, Michael Sheen (Good Omens) and Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix).

It centers around a sleeper ship transporting people in hibernation pods from Earth - after humans destroyed it - to another planet, 120 years away.

However, the ship ends up damaged due to an asteroid just 30 years in and wakes up one of the mechanical engineers on board who's left with a moral conundrum over whether he can continue being awake nearly alone.

Sadly, when first released in 2016, despite the big names behind it, the movie - Passengers - didn't go down too well, but specifically with critics.

Reviews then

Despite being a success at the box office - grossing $303.1 million worldwide on a $110-150 million budget, as per Box Office Mojo - and later being nominated for Best Original Score and Best Production Design at the 89th Academy Awards, Passengers received a not so fresh Rotten Tomatoes critics score of 30 percent.

However, its audience score was fairly solid, coming in at 63 percent.

Alas, audiences of 2024 who have stumbled across the sci-fi for the first time haven't held back in their reviews shared to Letterboxd - where the film holds an overall rating of 2.8 out of five.

Reviews now

One user rated the film two-and-a-half stars, writing: "Fun plot and premise but just doesn’t hit home for some reason even though it had two actors in their prime. Nevertheless, for some reason this movie falls into my 'I know it’s not good but I want to keep watching it' bucket."

"Zzzzz kinda bored," another said, rating the movie two stars.

And a third gave Passengers one-and-a-half stars, uttering: "Ugh no."

However, others were quick to defend the film.

One user, who rated it three-and-a-half stars, said: "Not sure why this film has such a low rating.

"Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence have great chemistry. The film may seem a little far fetched but we’re dealing with space so why not? A thoroughly enjoyable film it has to be said. Harshly judged and I don’t know why."

And a final simply resolved: "There's so many ways for this to be better. Still didn't hate it though."
