When you think of iconic movie deaths, you'll probably draw your mind to Gollum's in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, the shower scene in Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, or Mufasa's tragic passing in The Lion King.

Well, they're the three I think of, and while they were heart-wrenching, they were certainly memorable.

And that appears to be the direction that the writers of Jurassic World were going for when it came to one character's death sequence.

Jurassic World is the soft reboot of the Jurassic Park franchise, and while the original 1993 film played out a pretty glorious death itself in the most inglorious way possible - the lawyer runs to the outdoor toilet and sits on the loo before being eaten by a T-rex, the 2015 film produced a cinematic death which some viewers called 'unnecessarily gruesome'.

Enough dilly-dallying, let's dive straight in - all hell eventually breaks lose in the theme park on Isla Nublar, dinosaurs break out of their cages and people begin to panic.

Amongst all the chaos we see Zara (played by Katie McGrath) get snatched by a pterodactyl. She shouts 'don't just stand there' at the two young boys she's looking after as she's lifted off.

After a scuffle, it then drops her into a pool and as she swims up, the pterodactyl dives into the water and attempts to take her out - over and over again, and when it finally does and flies out of the water with her, a mosasaurus jumps out of the water and eats them both.

Her death lasts a total of 37 seconds - which if you think about it, is an absolute age on the big screen.

Unsurprisingly, it shocked people over on Twitter - despite the fact it happened almost 10 years ago - with some surprised that the horrifyingly morbid scene ever made it into the movie.

"Her death was unnecessarily gruesome," wrote one person.

Another said: "This is one of the most iconic scenes of the entire movie, gave me the chills," while a third commented: "10 year old me was mortified."

While fourth typed: "I need to see the behind-the-scenes of this script. Who wrote this masterpiece?"

I think I can assist with that, as McGrath herself was seemingly excited for her character's gruesome death.

Speaking on set moments before the scene took place in some behind-the-scenes footage, she said: "I'm about to die, die in like a very cool way. They're gonna pull me up on that crane straight up in the air."

McGrath then joked: "There's like eight people around me, it's so that I don't really die because that's a possibility - my mom would be upset."

And she did all the stunts herself too, adding: "I've been pulled on a harness, dropped from a crane I've been dropped in the water, I've been held underwater, I've been pulled out of the water, dropped in the water again, held out of the water... and then finally eaten by a giant, giant underwater dinosaur."

All in a day's work, I suppose.
