Fans are all saying the same thing about Sydney Sweeney’s dramatic ‘transformation’ for her new boxing biopic coming to cinemas this fall.
The 28-year-old Euphoria actress is busy on the movie front in 2025, with Echo Valley releasing on Apple TV+ earlier this summer, and The Housemaid slated for later this year.
But everyone is talking about her portrayal of legendary boxer Christy Martin in the titular sports biopic, set for a November 7 release.

The flick chronicles the rise of the Coal Miner’s Daughter and documents the domestic abuse she faced at the hands of her ex-husband, James V. Martin, who was 25 years her senior.
Sweeney said she gained 30 pounds to star in Christy, alongside actor Ben Foster, Love Lies Bleeding’s Katy O’Brian, and The Wire’s Chad L. Coleman.
“I’d wrap after a 12-hour shoot and then I’d go train for another two hours,” she revealed during an interview at the Toronto Film Festival.
And the boxing scenes were brutal, with the Anything But You star admitting she was ‘pummeled’ on set.

“They were holding ice packs to my face in between takes. I was getting knocked up. I had some gnarly bruises after that,” she explained to Variety.
Fans who’ve watched the official Christy trailer have admitted they’re impressed by Sweeney’s dedication to transforming her body for the role.

“Love it when an actor goes against type and really tries something different. The Rock and Sydney really flexing those acting chops,” said one YouTube commenter.

A second typed: “Sydney went through a physical transformation and is taking a big swing for the fences on this one.. Respect..”
“I always appreciate gorgeous actresses who put in the effort. they could coast if they wanted, but they choose to do the work,” another gushed.
A fourth viewer said that while they weren’t initially ‘expecting’ anything from Sweeney in the role, they thought it was ‘super good’ that she was ‘expanding her roles’.
And someone else replied: “I’m amazed at the commitment Sydney had to make for her role in Christy. Just one more talent to add to the list.”

According to Christy director David Michôd, casting the Euphoria star was a no-brainer.

“I knew that she was already a fighter,” he explained. “I saw her in that HBO film Reality from a few years ago. So I knew she had acting chops, and I was excited by the prospect of taking those acting chops to a bigger audience.”
To bulk up, the actress admitted that she worked with a nutritionist to increase her calorie intake.

“I started taking a lot of protein shakes and supplements and eating everything. I ate a lot of Smuckers, a lot of PB and J sandwiches, milkshakes, kind of just constantly always eating because we were so active,” she told Variety.
“I was constantly burning it all off at the same time. So keeping it all up was quite a challenge.”
Christy releases in the US on November 7 and in UK and Ireland cinemas on November 28.
