Most disturbing death scene in movie history has ‘stuck in people’s heads for years’

Most disturbing death scene in movie history has ‘stuck in people’s heads for years’

The 'horrible' scene comes from a movie starring Tom Hanks

Film fans have admitted there's one movie death scene that's 'stuck with them for years' as it's been dubbed the 'most disturbing' in film history.

There are a lot of iconic and memorable movie moments out there, but often those moments stick with us because they're uplifting or moving.

Darker, more morbid scenes aren't typically ones we want to remember, and yet those are often the ones that live in our minds rent-free - as proven by one particular Reddit thread.

Writing on the 'r/movies' subreddit, one user asked fellow film fans to share what they believed to be the 'most disturbing death scene' they'd ever watched.

They wrote: "Someone posted about movie Life (2017) having a very disturbing death scene and that reminded me of that "sick to the stomach" feeling i had while watching it, especially the ending.

"I know that there are many more movies that gave the same feeling but for some reason i can barely remember any and it's bugging me. And i watched A LOT of movies but i guess my brain is glitched."

It didn't take long for other film fans to share their thoughts on the most disturbing death scenes in cinema history, with one suggesting a movie starring beloved actor Tom Hanks.

If your brain immediately went to the scene of Wilson the volleyball floating away in Cast Away, I'll tell you right now that's not the movie I'm talking about.

Instead, the scene in question takes place in a prison, when a prisoner is subject to a botched execution.

That's right, we're talking about the 2000 movie The Green Mile, also starring Michael Clarke Duncan, David Morse and Sam Rockwell.

Sharing their thoughts on the gripping 'botched electric chair' scene, one Reddit user wrote: "That one has stuck with me for years. The description in the book is even more horrible."

Another user agreed, writing: "I feel you on that. It's crazy how some scenes just linger in your mind long after watching them.

"Movies have a way of hitting you in the gut, especially when they mix emotional depth with brutality."

The Green Mile is set on death row, where 'gentle giant' John Coffey (Duncan) shocked prison guard Paul Edgecomb (Hanks) with his incredible power to heal people's ailments.

When Edgecomb becomes aware of the prisoner's gift, he tries to help stop his execution from taking place.

Though The Green Mile does contain scenes that viewers have clearly found 'disturbing', it has also received high praise with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 94 percent from viewers.
