The Simpsons have done something insane with a revived character which hasn’t graced the screen in nearly three decades and fans have freaked out.

The latest episode of the hit US cartoon family series aired on Sunday October 6 and saw Marge and Homer’s early years in their relationship.

Titled The Yellow Lotus, it was here that fans were shocked to see a fan favourite character, who hasn’t been seen since season nine in the episode Realty Bites.

27 years after he made his appearance, he was joyously brought back and given a little more of a backstory.

Initially, he was Marge’s co-worker at the Red Blazer Realty firm and voiced by Hank Azaria.

In the latest Simpsons episode however, it was revealed that Marge had actually met him years earlier.

It was when the family took a trip the Drooping Dandelions resort, where Marge met her former colleague, and it showed that they had met in connection to a 10-year timeshare.

It all began when she was pregnant with Bart.

She and Homer met the character during a vacation, and he tricked them into a timeshare agreement by offering a free stereo to Homer, who was quick to say yes.

When they reunite, Marge blows up and lets him know how he has affected the couple and then the unthinkable happens- he dies.

Of course, the character is none other than Nick Callahan, the tricky realtor.

In the episode he’s killed by a high sea otter out for blood.

Fans who watched the episode quickly noticed that they’ve seen Nick before and were shocked when he met his untimely end.

One person wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “UNBELIEVABLE reprise for Nick Callahan, unseen since S9's "Realty Bites" 27 yrs ago, now he's revealed as the time-share scammer from even earlier &... well, let's just say it's likely the last we'll see of him too!”

Someone commented: “When i heard kent saying his name i was like NO WAY.”

Another echoed: “IKR? He was the perfect pick, job- and personality-wise. From an episode that *already* gave us Gil & Cookie, I always wanted him to get exploited & explored again too.”

Redditors also noticed his revival and were devastated when he was killed with one person writing: “First Larry, now Nick Callahan?! When will this show stop killing off beloved characters?!”

One other penned: “RIP Nick Callahan.”

Earlier this year, the show killed off a much-loved character called Larry the Barfly.

Larry was a regular boozer at Moe's Tavern who died in the same spot he spent most of his days, leaving the episode focusing on life, the meaning of friendship and making meaningful connections.

Co-executive producer Tim Long went on to apologize for Larry's death after fan expressed their love for the character.

He told TMZ that he's sorry to fans who are upset about the death, though went on to add that he was pleased with the reaction because it speaks to how beloved the show still is to this day.
