Sometimes less is more when it comes to cinema and Tom Hanks seems to agree, as the actor said he is glad a sequel was never made for one of his most beloved and successful films.

There is a reason Tom Hanks is considered one of the greatest actors of our time. The man has two Best Actor Oscar wins, let’s not forget.

He has pretty much been giving fans iconic performances for decades in a whole slew of genres.

But if I say the words ‘life is like a box of chocolates’, there is only one reason you think of Tom Hanks.

And that is because he brought the character Forrest Gump to the world in 1994’s Oscar winning film of the same name.

It is easily one of my favorite films and Hanks is very aware how much the role and film means to fans across the world.

Fans were left equally ecstatic when they realized that Hanks would be pairing up again with Robin Wright, who played ‘Jenaaaaaaayyy’ in Forrest Gump, as well as the film’s director Robert Zemeckis, for the upcoming movie Here.

While Hanks can likely appreciate people's excitement for the trio's return, the actor said he was glad a sequel for Forrest Gump was never made.

During a recent interview with the New York Times, he said: “It is this extraordinary amalgam that stands completely on its own and never has to be repeated.

“And thank God we never bothered trying to make another one. Why put a hat on a hat?”

Funnily enough, the author of the Forrest Gump book, (yes the film was based on a book) Winston Groom, did go on to write a sequel book following the success of the film, entitled Gump and Co.

With that being said, Hanks said he still has fans emphasize just how impactful the film has been to them and their family, despite it hitting screens over 25 years ago.

He added: “I still get letters all the time saying, every year the family gets together, we do what we did back in 1994, when it first came out on home video. We all watch it, from beginning to end,” he said.

“Right now, someone is watching that movie from beginning to end somewhere in the world. And it’s landing with that same sense of comfort and familiarity.”

And personally, I am overjoyed that they never released a sequel that would just struggled to capture the magic of the first film... and that is all I have to say about that.
