It's seen movie goers descend into madness during screenings - over one scene in particular - and with the film having caused such 'chaos' since its release, it was only right for UNILAD RANKED's latest piece to dive into some other top video game adaptations too.

The question is, will you be as divided over Rotten Tomatoes' top five video game movie adaptations as the scores for the Minecraft movie were - coming in at 47 percent on the tomatometer and 88 on the popcornmeter?
5) Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019)
Squeezing into the top five is fantasy Pokémon Detective Pikachu - based on the Pokémon franchise and a loose adaptation of the 2016 video game of the same name.

The first live-action Pokémon film stars Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) in the titular voice, alongside Bill Nighy (Joy), Suki Waterhouse (Love, Rosie), Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) and Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies).
With a solid tomatometer of 68 and a popcornmeter of 79 - a median of 73.5 - the movie - available to rent on Amazon Prime - went down well with Pokémon fans.
Even those who were pranked a day before the film's theatrical release when the movie was supposedly 'leaked' online but it was actually one minute of the film and then a solid hour and forty-five minute loop of Pikachu dancing.
A Twitter user wrote: "#DetectivePikachu is a pure joy from start to finish. It’s a heartfelt, relentlessly charming story filled with excellent worldbuilding. Plenty of deep cuts for #Pokémon fans. There must’ve been a grass-type in the theater because I got surprisingly misty-eyed in parts."

Another wrote: "10/10 extremely cute."
"I feel like I need another Pokémon movie this was amazing!!" A fourth said, and well, a sequel was announced back in 2019 however, there's been little news since then, so keep you eyes peeled and watch the fourth up on the list in the meantime...

The film is based on the sim racing video game series developed by Polyphony Digital, the biographical sports drama is from a screenplay written by Jason Hall (American Sniper) and Zach Baylin (King Richard).
It centers around a sensationalized version of real life British teen and Gran Turismo player turned professional racing car driver, Jann Mardenborough.
Gran Turismo stars Archie Madekwe (Saltburn) alongside David Harbour (Stranger Things), Orlando Bloom (Lord of the Rings), Darren Barnet (Never Have I Ever) and even an appearance from Spice Girl Geri Halliwell.
With a Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer of 65 and popcornmeter of 98 - with a median of 81.5 - the response to the film has been a bit divided, however, one Twitter user wrote: "The Gran Turismo movie has actually went to the trouble of replicating the super static chase cam from the games, and for that alone, it should be a 10/10 movie."

"Just finished watching the Gran Turismo film. It was pretty good. Loved the story. Definitely makes me want to jump back into GT7 again lol," another added.
Baylin cited 1976's Rocky and 1986's Top Gun as influences on the film - big claims, so go and check it out for yourself with your NOW TV subscription.
The next adaptation takes a bit of a different turn...

3) The Angry Birds Movie 2 (2019)
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 did come in at number three - with a median of 82.5 - however, given it's one adaptation over a few movies, the mention is being saved for another in the series which lands higher up the list.
Taking it's place instead is The Angry Birds Movie 2 - based on Rovio Entertainment's Angry Birds video game series, the animated comedy was produced by Columbia Picture and Sony Pictures Animation alongside Rovio Entertainment.
It acts as a sequel to 2016 release The Angry Birds Movie and Jason Sudeikis (We're the Millers), Josh Gad (Frozen), and Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) reprise their roles, alongside Leslie Jones and Rachel Bloom joining the fun.
An early draft of the movie allegedly saw eagles come to destroy Piggy Island, however, it was deemed too serious in tone and so scrapped, IMDb reports, the movie's synopsis seeing pigs and birds unite to battle against Eagle Island's leader instead.
Despite not being as financially successful as the first movie, it went down a hit with viewers and critics alike, obtaining a fresh tomatometer of 72 percent and popcornmeter of 84 - and a median of 78 - with one Twitter user writing: "I keep telling people Angry Bird 2 is genuinely one of the funniest films in years yet nobody believes me."
And hey, another said it was 'frighteningly hilarious,' so if you want to see what all the fuss is about, you can catch it if you've got a NOW subscription.

2) Werewolves Within (2021)
Based on the video game of the same name from Red Storm Entertainment, the comedy horror was written by Mishna Wolff (Wolf Like Me) and directed by Josh Ruben (Scare Me).
It stars the likes of Sam Richardson (Veep), Milana Vayntrub (Silicon Valley), George Basil (Wrecked), Sarah Burns (Moving On) and Michael Chernus (Severance).
The story centers around what happens when a snowstorm traps residents of a town altogether inside the local inn and whether despite tensions bubbling over, they can work together to survive against a mysterious creature.
With the film - available to rent on Amazon Prime - reportedly containing a specific nod to the Assassin's Creed franchise in the form of a specific weapon, it went down a hit with gaming lovers.
The film's achieved a tomatometer score of 86 percent and popcornmeter of 80 percent - a median of 83 - with one Twitter user stating: "I can not recommend this movie enough."
Another added: "Another one of those movies I knew nothing about and absolutely loved. Best type of film, having no expectations set and being blown away. Horror comedy is hard to pull off, and this one definitely delivered."
Drum roll please...

1) Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024)
The action-adventure movie is based on the Sonic video game series and is the third in the film series.
Written by Pat Casey (Violent Night), Josh Miller (Violent Night), and John Whittington (The Lego Batman Movie), the film features an all-star cast of none other than Jim Carrey (The Truman Show), Keanu Reeves (The Matrix), Idris Elba (Luther) and Ben Schwartz (Bojack Horseman), even if you aren't a gamer, it would be hard to refuse a viewing of Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Despite saying he was considering retirement after filming the second in the series, Carrey ultimately reprised his role as Dr. Robotnik.
Carrey reportedly told Access Hollywood he would only return to acting if 'the angels bring some sort of script that's written in gold ink that says to me that it's going to be really important for people to see,' so producers Neal H Mortiz and Toby Ascher did just that, sending the Grinch actor a script printed with 24-carat ink.
The film - which you can rent on Amazon Prime - debuted with 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes - 'the highest score of the trilogy and one of the highest scores for video game movie,' according to Discussing Film - and one viewer even said at the time: "It's way too low, it should be 100 percent."

With a solid 85 percent tomatometer and applause-worthy 95 percent popcornmeter - and median of 90 - a second viewer wrote: "The Sonic Trilogy has broken the video game movie curse. They are actually wholesome, and caters to fans instead of watering down the source material. Cheers! Well-deserved."
