People are calling for 'forgotten man' Seann William Scott to be in more films

The 45-year-old was catapulted into the limelight in 1999 playing Steve Stifler in coming-of-age comedy American Pie.

Cinephiles are calling for actor Seann William Scott to make a return to the big screen after labelling him film’s ‘forgotten man'.

The 45-year-old was catapulted into the limelight in 1999 playing Steve Stifler in comedy American Pie alongside Jason Biggs, Jennifer Coolidge and Alyson Hannigan.

Aside from reprising his role in another two American Pie films, he starred in a whole host of early noughties gross-out comedies including Road Trip, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Dude, Where's My Car? alongside Ashton Kutcher.

He also appeared in Old School, Final Destination, The Dukes of Hazzard, Role Models and even voiced a character for animation Ice Age.

Despite his early success, William Scott’s film career slowed down in recent years and he last appeared in a movie, Already Gone, in 2019.

Taking to Reddit, cinema lovers commented on the Evolution actor’s absence from film and insisted he could have played roles Chris Pratt and Ryan Reynolds play but was ultimately typecast due to Stifler.

The thread titled, ‘Anyone like Seann William Scott?’, saw a Reddit user pen: “I watched him for the first time in the American Pie movies and Evolution and just find him a likable presence.

“I wish he had been in more movies. I feel like he could have played the same kind of roles Chris Pratt and Ryan Reynolds play.

“Guess he was to typecast as Stifler or there are just sold actors destined to be lost in the shuffle” (sic).

In response, one cinema fans commented: “The Rundown great job by him. Old School amazing in his one scene. Role Models he is perfect against Paul Rudd. Road Trip he absolutely carries that movie at points. Man’s been done wrong.”

Another added: “He did a Reddit AMA a few years ago. Someone asked why doesn't do very many movies. He simply replied, ‘I don't get offers'. I think he also said that he has never turned down a movie role.

“I don't know if that means directors and studios don't like him or if he's maybe unwilling to audition. Either way, we don't get to see him much.”

Another Reddit user touched on his 2015 movie, Just Before I Go, which bombed at the box office and was widely panned by critics at the time.

Suggesting that was the nail in the coffin for Williams Scott, they wrote: “I actually watched an interview with him where he was brutally honest.

“He had a dramatic movie he played in and it completely bombed. Not too many people watched it and the critics were brutal.

“And he is often typecast as Stiffler. It’s unfortunate because most people don’t really realize he’s actually a pretty decent actor with a comedic side to him. Even role models flew under the radar.

“As great as I think Ryan Reynolds is at Deadpool, I can also see Sean pulling off that role. Unfortunate for his career tbh.”

Although he may not be on the big screen, Williams Scott most recently starred in Fox mockumentary series Welcome To Flatch, which is based on BBC’s This Country, and is set to return for a second series next month.

He has also recently wrapped filming Becky 2: The Wrath of Becky.
