So it's a pretty stellar line-up.
But while he believes the modern take on the story will be a hit with fans, he isn't so keen on the 1993 live-action version, which starred Hollywood great Bob Hoskins as Mario and John Leguizamo as Luigi.
I mean, he kind of has a point. The flick was met with pretty scathing reviews, and bombed at the box office when it hit cinemas.
If you take a look on Rotten Tomatoes, for example, it's got a score of just 29 percent, which is not the best.

One critic wrote of the film: "Game over, man."
And it looks like the Superbad star agrees.
Speaking to Variety about the film, the 40-year-old said: “When I was 11, I saw the original Mario Bros. movie and I was so excited. But it’s one of the worst films ever made. I was so disappointed.

"I think it made me realize that movies, like, could be bad. That never occurred to me until that moment."
He went on: “It really bummed me out. It’s nice to vindicate that moment. It’s nice to know that 11-year-olds out there that they won’t be disappointed in the same way that I was."
Don't sit on the fence, dude, tell us how you really feel.
Well, how has Rogen's version of the story fared at the box office?

Again, if we're taking Rotten Tomatoes as the litmus test, it's looking pretty mixed so far.
Critics seem pretty split on the matter, with it scoring just 53 percent since its release.
"Beautifully animated, and about as faithful and affectionate as a corporate cash-in is possible to get — but it still doesn’t come close to the experience of actually playing the games," wrote one.

While another remarked: "It makes lots of noise and has tons of antic action, but possesses zero charm, being notable mostly for its chilly efficiency."
However, it's a much more positive vibe with fans, with cinema goers scoring it at at 97 percent.
Praising the movie, one fan said: "Loved that they included everything an old time fan and liver of Super Mario would want to see. Oh yeah, Chris Pratt did OUTSTANDING!!!"
And I mean, they're the ones paying. Who needs critics?
