There are very few feelings like the intensity of a scary movie.

Whether it be something psychological like Saw, gory like Texas Chainsaw, or just downright creepy like Hereditary – there are very few things that make you feel like a horror movie, and it has everyone chasing the next best one.

Look no further, because we’ve found a movie being dubbed the ‘scariest’ you’ve never watched or heard of – and some fans were so terrified watching it, they literally cried. Check out the unsettling trailer below:

The film in question is Skinamarink, a 2022 experimental horror film by director Kyle Edward Ball which is available to watch on Prime Video.

Skinamarink is a deeply unsettling movie, filmed in Ball’s own childhood home for just $15,000.

The horror focuses on a young brother and sister waking up at night unable to find their parents – where they also realise the windows, doors, and other objects in their house begin to disappear.

It is a very experimental project – with fans obsessed with different theories of what the weird s**t happening actually means.

This has led to people such as FilmTheory to dive into the meaning behind the film, with his recent podcast episode ‘The SCARIEST movie you’ve never seen!’ about Skinamarink.

A modern horror movie in every sense of the word, Ball made his start on YouTube, and has stated that the ‘unsung hero’ of the movie is Reddit.

Speaking to RogerEbert.com, he said: “I started out doing YouTube videos where people would comment, and then I got buzzed through Reddit.

“Really, the unsung hero of the movie is Reddit, in a weird way. My channel didn’t take off that much, and it still has never really taken off.

“I started sharing it on Reddit, and people on Reddit would share nightmares they’d had. I was also looking at different subreddits like r/weirdcore and r/liminalspaces.”

Ball even went on to say: “It feels like, in weird ways, this is the movie that Reddit made. I know that’s a loaded term, and I know people have different ideas of Reddit, but it’s always come back to Reddit in a strange way.”

The movie was an undeniable success, making back $2 million from its miniscule budget of just $15,000.

It was also a smash hit with horror fans, with one posting on X: “To actually be for real I loved Skinamarink, I told my roommate it ‘made my monkey brain scared’ because it dredged up feelings of primal fear that I had as a child and made me re-experience them as an adult.

"Also almost made me cry a couple times? I love horror."

This was backed up by @bee_charli who posted: “Did not expect Skinamarink to make me cry,” and added in the replies that it ‘absolutely tapped into a lot of my childhood fears too’.

Skinamarink is available to watch on Prime Video with an Amazon Prime membership - new members can join with a 30-day free trial.
