Snakes on a Plane is definitely a good name for a film, but bring the idea in to real life and I can guarantee there'd be a lot less people wanting to be on board — in both senses of the phrase.
Unfortunately, passengers on an AirAsia flight got to experience their own, real-life version of the Samuel L. Jackson film when they spotted a snake on board a flight from the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur to Tawau.
Creepy footage shared on TikTok shows the long, thin body of a snake casting a shadow as it hid in an illuminated section of the plane above the passengers.

In the footage, which was shared on TikTok by user @edal8808, it seems that the person behind the camera is one of the only people to have spotted the snake as a flight attendant can be heard in the background talking nonchalantly about passengers lowering their tray tables.
Had news of the snake been spread throughout the plane at this point, I can't imagine there would be as much calm among the passengers. At least, there wouldn't have been if I were onboard.

In a caption alongside the video, the TikToker explained the plane made an emergency landing in Kuching, according to a translation of the text cited by NPR, after staff members were notified about the unwelcome passenger.
In a statement to CNN Turk, AirAsia's chief security officer Liong Tien Ling confirmed that the footage was no trick of the eyes, as he commented, 'AirAsia is aware of the incident that occurred on the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Tawau on Thursday. As soon as the captain was notified, the plane was diverted to Kuching to be disinfected.'
Tien Ling added that neither passengers nor guests were in danger, according to the outlet, and assured in a statement cited by NPR that travellers don't have to worry about snakes starting to pop up on every flight.

He said, 'This is a very rare incident which can occur on any aircraft from time to time.'
Though this particular instance of a snake on a plane ended in a relatively un-dramatic manner, social media users were quick to compare the scene to the 2006 thriller, in which a crate full of venomous snakes are unleashed on suspecting passengers.
One person commented, 'The prophecy of Snakes on a Plane has come true,' while another joked, 'Snakes on a plane 2022. Not as adventurous though.'
With Tien Ling's assurances that snakes on a plane are rare, let's just hope there's not a sequel to this unfortunate incident.
