Taron Egerton once had a meeting with Marvel about the potential of playing an X-Men character – but no, it wasn’t Wolverine.
After Hugh Jackman hung up his claws (well, almost), the internet has been obsessed with the topic of which star will don the famous mutton chops next.
Stranger Things fans have expressed their support for actor Dacre Montgomery, who plays Billy Hargrove, while others are keen for Kingsman star Taron Egerton.
Egerton has previously fuelled the speculation by suggesting he could be up for it, having told The New York Times: "I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it."

He added: "But hopefully if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot."
Speaking on Sirius XM's Sway's Universe recently, the actor addressed the 'internet frenzy possibility' of him playing the iconic character.
Egerton said: “I made the mistake of saying that I had had a general meeting at Marvel around four years ago – which is true, but it got kind of spun and twisted into this thing.”

He continued: “I mean, I don’t know if I’m the right guy to play that part.
“You know, I was with Hugh [Jackman] yesterday briefly - who obviously played the role originally - and […] we’re such different vibes. I don’t know if I would be the right person to follow him.
“But I’ve always said I’d be open to it, but at the moment, there’s no truth other than the fan casting thing, which goes kind of crazy every time I mention it.
“But who knows?”

However, Egerton did mention a meeting with a certain entertainment giant; if that wasn’t to set up a Wolverine gig, what was it about?
When asked if he ‘almost’ got the role of Cyclops, Egerton replied: “Yeah, I don’t mind saying that was a real thing, there was a real conversation.
“To be honest, the reason that conversation never went any further is because I didn’t want to play a character - for a potential of a series of movies - where you don’t see my eyes.

“For me, I felt instinctively, creatively, that the eyes are the windows to the soul.
“I don’t know, I would find that challenging, and I just didn't find it an intriguing prospect.
“So it’s not that they ever offered it to me, but there was a real conversation that never went any further.”
