Tom Cruise has just turned 60 - and the director of the seventh instalment of Mission Impossible paid tribute in the most fitting way.
Cruise has been playing Ethan Hunt since the '90s, performing all manner of stunts as the agent. At this point though, he'd be forgiven for dialling down these high risk antics and focussing on his lines, but he seemingly has no interest in that.
Yesterday (Sunday 3 July), the actor turned 60 and the director of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Christopher McQuarrie, paid tribute by sharing a snap of a stunt from the new movie.

In it, Cruise can be seen dangling from the wing of a plane - which is flying upside down. It's classic stuff, really.
McQuarrie shared the image with the caption: "Happy 60th Birthday, Tom."
Back in 2020, Cruise made headlines when he executed a stunning stunt in Norway for the upcoming Mission: Impossible movie.

Taking place on the 1,246-metre Helsetkopen mountain in Stranda, Cruise drove off the edge at high speed, before flying through the air and ditching the vehicle, parachuting down to safety.
Ole Arnstein Ringdal, one of hundreds who gathered to watch the stunt, told Norwegian news outlet NRK that Cruise rode off the mountain four times, adding: "After the third jump, he came over and talked to us from a distance of twenty metres. He loves nature here, and is very grateful for the hospitality he has experienced."
Cruise celebrated his 60th at Silverstone, where he watched the British Grand Prix.

He watched the action from inside the Mercedes garage alongside driver George Russell, who was knocked out of the race following a collision on the first lap, and members of the pit crew.
After the race, he chatted with Sir Lewis Hamilton and the seven-time world champion's father, Anthony.
Cruise regularly appears at British sporting events, last year attending the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Wimbledon 2021 finals and Euro 2020 final all in the same day.

He has been spending time in the UK over the last two years while filming for the latest Mission: Impossible film and promoting the release of Top Gun: Maverick.
In June, the blockbuster action sequel became the biggest film of the year so far in the UK just three weeks on from release, taking £50.1 million at the box office.
