She-Hulk: Attorney at Law placed women front and centre (the clue is in the name), which is why fans were so shocked to discover the titular character was played by a man in a key scene.
The series came to an end last week with an epic finale that wrapped up Jennifer Walter’s (Tatiana Maslany) origin story and opened up new developments for the wider MCU.
Without going into any spoiler territory, the opening scene of the finale paid homage to the 1970s TV series The Incredible Hulk, which went on to become a classic long before the start of the cinematic universe.

In the scene, we see Maslany replicating the opening of the vintage show as she transforms into the Green Goliath after hurting herself while changing a tyre. Check it out:
For authenticity, rather than using CGI, as is done with many of the shots throughout the first season, She-Hulk was played by influencer and pro bodybuilder Devon Lewis.
We know this thanks to behind-the-scenes footage shared by Lewis himself, showing him in the full green garb as he gives his best She-Hulk snarl.

Prior to this shot, he explains: "It's funny, I've been seeing people post this She-Hulk TikTok video but a lot of people still haven't realised that She-Hulk was played by a man."
Alongside the footage, Lewis posted a couple of BTS shots too, showing him covered head to toe in green paint alongside a wig.
"Yes motherf**kers, that's me," he says, adding in the comments section, "The body of She-Hulk will never get any recognition but I was grateful to do it."

Plenty of people were on hand to share their praise for Lewis' feat, with one writing: "I told my nephews that when it came out, so I had to show them the TikTok and they were like wow... so thank you for being the representation for POC."
Another said: "I was so hyped when you first posted it and now every time I watch I’m like I know that body!!"
"I didn’t know," added a third. "That’s so awesome."
That it is. And while we're at it, another person who deserves a mention is Malia Arrayah Nahinu, the 6'5'' performer who also stood in as She-Hulk as an on-set reference and stunt double for a number of scenes.

Thanks to all of those involved, the character was brought to life, offering us a new storyline that will no doubt be continued in the wider MCU.
