The story of the Ice Age squirrel desperately attempting to protect his little acorn was a staple in many people's childhoods, but did you ever wonder what became of Scrat?
Not only that, but did you ever know that his name was Scrat?
Me neither, but now that we've established the squirrel's name, we can get on to his story.
Over the course of the Ice Age movies, as well as through trailers and video games, fans watched Scrat try time and again to protect his precious acorn while the world froze around him.

He had to deal with mishaps, competition and danger, but he never gave up. Unfortunately, the animation house behind Ice Age, Blue Sky Studios, got shut down in 2021 by Disney after the Fox acquisition.
However, the following year Disney+ released a miniseries which had been produced by the Blue Sky animators before the studio was shut down. The series was titled Scrat Tales, and featured a series of shorts.
On the same day the series was released, an unlisted video appeared on YouTube by an account named Finale.

Titled 'The End', the video shows Scrat spotting and grabbing his acorn, all the while looking around nervously, as if waiting for the cruel circumstance that would come and take it from him.
Finally, Scrat decides to take charge. After years of waiting, chasing and fighting to get his hands on the acorn, he finally sinks his teeth into the nut and demolishes it in a matter of seconds.
The video was accompanied by a description, which read: “In the final days of Blue Sky Studios, a small team of artists came together to do one final shot. This shot is a farewell, a send-off on our own terms.”

The 'finale' video provides the closure so many of us never knew we needed for Scrat, and it quickly went on to be viewed by millions of people.
Taking to X after watching the finale Blue Sky Studios video, one fan wrote: "The squirrel from ice age finally got his nut my childhood is completed."
"The squirrel from Ice Age finally got his nut. What a legend," another posted.

As well as working on Scrat the squirrel and Ice Age, Blue Sky Studios helped bring the world a number of much-loved kids' films including The Peanuts Movie and Dr. Suess’ Horton Hears a Who!
The studio was founded in 1987 before it finally closed its doors more than 30 years later.
