People are shocked by the ‘darkest ever’ episode of Tom & Jerry which was once aired to home-viewers, and it's ruining our childhoods.
The cartoon is a childhood classic. From those belly-laugh-inducing slapstick moments between our favourite cat and mouse, to always wondering what their Nanny’s face looked like, there’s no denying that the animated series has got a special place in our hearts.

But it turns out there was one particularly sad episode in the much-loved show, which may well have gone over the heads of innocent children watching - and it’s even worse re-visiting the moment in your adult years.
The episode sees our beloved moggie Tom fighting for the affection of the cool cat Toodles Galore. He tries to impress her with a series of sweet gifts like a flower, a bottle of perfume, a wagon, and even attempts to get down on one knee with an engagement ring.
But his attempts are sadly in vain, as Butch Cat massively shows him up with a whole flower garland, a truckload of perfume, a swanky limo and an engagement ring that shines so bright you actually have to look at it with a welding mask on.

And this is enough to tip poor Tom over the edge, as he spends the rest of his days drinking himself to sleep with the biggest mountain of milk bottles we’ve ever seen.
His little friend Jerry eventually saves him from literally spiralling down the drain, but the pair both end up wallowing in their own sadness after Tom sees Toodles and Butch have just gotten hitched, while Jerry spots his own love interest Toots is heading off on her honeymoon.
They both end up sitting together on some train tracks and wallowing in their pain - and it's quite possibly the saddest thing we've ever seen.

Viewers took to the comments section on the TikTok video in shock, with many wondering how they never realised quite how dark this episode was in their younger years.
One person wrote: "We [were] too young to notice," while another viewer said: "I get you Tom buddy."
"We thought it was a joke but they were teaching us..... We were just too young to notice," someone else echoed.

Another added: "They have been preparing us for the reality of life since childhood," and a different viewer penned: "Tom just wanted love. Jerry just wanted love. We all want love."
Honestly, we wish we never grew up.
