50 Cent sends message to Quavo about his upcoming final album with Takeoff

50 Cent sends message to Quavo about his upcoming final album with Takeoff

50 Cent has urged Quavo to look after Takeoff’s legacy in the wake of the rapper’s death

50 Cent has urged Quavo to look after Takeoff’s legacy in the wake of the rapper’s death.

On Monday (1 November) Takeoff was killed aged 28 by a stray bullet when an argument kicked off at a Houston bowling alley in the early hours of the morning.

In a new social media post, 50 reminded Quavo - who is Takeoff’s uncle and former bandmate - that sometimes the best music comes from a place of pain.

50 added the caption to a video of music executive Steven Victor speaking about the ways in which 50 inspired the release of Pop Smoke’s posthumous debut album.

Pop Smoke was killed during a home invasion in 2020 aged just 20, and in the footage posted by 50, Victor explained that the late rapper’s album may have never been released had 50 not shared some words of wisdom.

Victor said: “After [Pop Smoke] passed, 50 kept trying to get in touch with me.

“So I finally went to go see him. I couldn’t listen to [Pop Smoke’s] music, and 50 was like, ‘Yo. You’re being selfish. You can’t let your emotions or you being in this depressed state stop you from executing the plans you guys had.'”

Victor went on: “'Three weeks ago, you guys were in my office talking about taking over the world.

“‘He passed away, but who’s going to keep his legacy going? Who’s gonna make sure his music comes out so he can take care of his family?”’

Victor continued: “He’s like, ‘That’s on you. I get you’re sad and all that s**t, but this ain’t the time for that’.”

Beneath the video, 50 wrote: “This is really how it goes. @quavohuncho you have to position this album correctly for Takeoff's Legacy, go make a couple changes and address everything all artists make the best music out of painful moments. R.I.P to Pop Smoke. R.I.P to Takeoff.”

In a statement released after Takeoff’s death, Migos’ record label Quality Control Music wrote: “It is with broken hearts and deep sadness that we mourn the loss of our beloved brother Kirsnick Khari Ball, known to the world as Takeoff.

“Senseless violence and a stray bullet has taken another life from this world and we are devastated. Please respect his family and friends as we all continue to process this monumental loss.”
