Millennials have just discovered the wonder of Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ thanks to Stranger Things - and it’s helped the singer to earn her highest ever place in the US charts.
The use of the 1985 Hounds of Love track on the Netflix series has helped place the song at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart this week, making it her first-ever top-ten single across the pond.
Almost 40 years since the song debuted, the song’s new achievement outruns its previous spot at No. 30 on the chart, which was dominated by Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin’s ‘Separate Lives’ and Starship’s ‘We Built This City’ at the time.

The song is now among the likes of Harry Styles’ ‘As It Was’ and Jack Harlow’s ‘First Class’.
Bush recently released a statement on the resurgence of her 80s single, writing: “It’s all really exciting! Thanks very much to everyone who has supported the song.
“I wait with bated breath for the rest of the series in July.”

Elsewhere, Netflix fans recalled how Bush’s single was first featured in Pose, an FX series about New York's drag ball subculture.
Commenting on the newfound popularity of the song due to Stranger Things, one social media user wrote: “But we are NOT gonna talk about 'Running Up That Hill' & iconic TV music moments & NOT mention Pose.
“That was Angel + Stan's song, marking the rare moment she let her guard down & felt worthy of the love she's always wanted.”

Another added: “Just read that Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ being featured in Stranger Things 4 launched the song into popularity. As if Pose didn’t already put that song back into rotation as Angel’s love theme from season 1. Or did that only happen in our house?”
“Pose did ‘Running Up That Hill’ better than Stranger Things,” someone else expressed.
A different fan of the drama said: “I’m a little salty Kate Bush is trending….Not because I wanna be gatekeeping, but because it happened because of Stranger Things and not Pose… ‘Running Up That Hill’ will always belong to miss Angel Evangelista!”

“Real heads know the best visual media use of ‘Running Up That Hill’ is in the pilot of Pose,” said someone else.
A different person quipped: “You know ‘Running Up That Hill’ from Stranger Things I know it from Pose we are not the same.”
You can watch season four of Stranger Things on Netflix and all three seasons of Pose on BBC iPlayer.
