The heavy metal band Slipknot have announced they are parting ways with their longtime drummer Jay Weinberg.
The drummer joined the band in 2014 and worked with them on their past three albums, 5.: The Gray Chapter, We Are Not Your Kind and The End, So Far.
In a statement, the band said they are continuing to evolve and have decided to part ways as part of a creative decision.

“We would like to thank Jay Weinberg for his dedication and passion over the past ten years,” the band said in a statement on their website.
“No one can ever replace Joey Jordison’s original sound, style or energy, but Jay honored Joey’s parts and contributed to the last three albums and we, the band, and the fans appreciate it. But as ever, Slipknot is intent on evolving.”
Prior to Weinberg joining the band, the band’s drummer was Joey Jordison.
Jordison initially said he left the band for personal reasons before later revealing the decision to leave was due to health reasons.

“I got really, really sick with a horrible disease called transverse myelitis. I couldn’t play anymore. It was a form of multiple sclerosis, which I don’t wish on my worst enemy,” he said.
Jordison died peacefully in his sleep in 2021.
On the latest departure of Weinberg, the band’s statement also said it has wishes ‘Jay all the best and are very excited for what the future holds,’ for the drummer.

Fans of the group have questioned the band's decision on social media and asked if there was bad blood between members.
“Soon this band is just going to be session musicians with a dancing clown batting a beer keg. Grateful I got to see Slipknot when they were a real band and I feel sorry for any fan who sees whatever sad version stumbles up on stage in the future,” one fan wrote on an Instagram post celebrating the birthday of member Mick Thomson.
“So you're just gonna kick out someone who has won best metal drummer TWO years in a row from making music with YOUR guys band and not disclose WHY,” another frustrated fan wrote.

“Like let's be so real this was absolutely not Jay's decision. Just call it Corey Taylor's band at this point bc that's what he's trying to make it.”
Weinberg’s latest Instagram post does not mention the parting of ways but is a thank you message after winning metal drummer of the year.
