It's a question David Bowie asked back in 1971, and now conspiracy theorists are claiming they have proof that there is, indeed, life on Mars.
This is all down to a mysterious alien 'statue' that's appeared on the red planet, which reportedly features a 'face' of an unknown being.
Discovered by Scott C. Waring, an extraterrestrial enthusiast, the statue was found in a collection of images from Nasa's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which were captured by the Mars Rover.

While to the untrained eye it looks like nothing more than an unusually shaped piece of rock, conspiracy theorists have speculated that it's actually an alien statue.
Waring described it as '100% proof of an alien species existing on Mars'.
He made the declaration on his alien blog, UFO Sightings Daily, writing: "Water on Mars doesn’t exist anymore, but even Nasa has made computer simulations of how they thought Mars died, and one of the ways was a solar explosion from our sun that stripped Mars of both its atmosphere and its oceans planet-wide."

"That makes a lot of sense to me, and this carved head on the hillside is no longer a possibility but a reality."
To put how closely the alien enthusiast was looking at the pictures into context, this is the alleged alien statue from a distance.
While a lot of people might argue that the find is just a rock, fans of Waring were quick to agree with his theory on social media.

Praising the find, one wrote: "It's like the Creature from the Black Lagoon. This might have been the Mars version of the Jesus statue in Rio de Janeiro up on the mountain overlooking the city.
"Dude you may have just made the most important discovery regarding Mars civilisation and their deity. What would you even call that? Extratheology? [sic]"
A second speculated: "Could it be remains of a pyramid where the head fell off or something? I feel that the head fell off over time or something could have broken it off maybe?"
"Looks like a totem head of some kind," wrote a third, while a fourth added: "It looks like ur looking at it the wrong way flip it and u can see arms also the base of it I can see a whole creature not just a head imo [sic]."

As reported by Scientific American, there is currently no absolute proof of life on Mars. However, researchers can say with certainty that in the past it had a much wetter, more habitable climate.
