Bernie Marcus, the co-founder of The Home Depot, blames ‘socialism’ for destroying capitalism and claimed ‘nobody works anymore’.
The 93-year-old billionaire thinks the successful company couldn’t happen today because of people putting obstacles in the way of the business community.
In an interview with the Financial Times, Marcus shared his worries about capitalism and claimed people just want to be given money without putting in the work.

“Nobody works,” he told the publication, describe his worry about capitalism. “Nobody gives a damn. ‘Just give it to me. Send me money. I don’t want to work – I’m too lazy, I’m too fat, I’m too stupid'.”
Marcus co-founded The Home Depot, the American multinational home improvement retail corporation, with Arthur Blank in 1978 when he was 50 years old.
The Atlanta-based company has more than 2,312 locations across North America.

In 2021, the company had 490,600 employees and more than $151 billion in revenue. The Rutgers University graduated retired as chairman of Home Depot in 2002.
Marcus also hit out at President Joe Biden, and bestowed him with the dishonour of being ‘the worst President in the history of this country’ adding that ‘we used to have free speech here'.
He went on: “We don’t have it. The woke people have taken over the world.”

Also on his list of people to blame, Marcus criticised human resources executives, government bureaucrats, socialists, Harvard graduates, Master of Business Administration (MBAs), lawyers and accountants. According to Marcus, who is worth $5.25 billion per Bloomberg, these people are the main obstacles hindering entrepreneurial success in 2022.
Marcus also gives back through charity, having joined the Gates’ family and Warren Buffett’s Giving Pledge, meaning he will donate at least half of his fortune to charitable causes.
With Home Depot being Georgia’s largest public company based on revenue, Marcus backed the construction of the Georgia Aquarium and has given $2 billion to over 500 organisations through the Marcus Foundation.

Marcus is also an avid Trumpster. In 2020 he wrote an opinion piece for Fox news explaining why the former Apprentice star deserved a second term in the White House.
Marcus said he gave money to both former President, Donald Trump and Florida governor Ron DeSantis, Trump’s rival for the 2024 GOP nomination.
Although he apparently remained coy on who he thinks will win the nomination. “It’s going to be very interesting in ‘24 because I think that DeSantis will challenge him. And may the better man win,” he said.
