Cat With Rare Disorder Stuns Internet With ‘Cosmic Moon Eyes’

Animal lovers have been left stunned by a blind cat with eyes that have been described as similar to a 'cosmic Moon'.

Pico the cat, who is nine years old, has been described as 'the cutest boy ever' by his owner, Monica. Though such a description is common for any animal owner, social media users have appeared to support the title for Pico as he has racked up hundreds of thousands of admirers online.

The cat can regularly be seen trotting through the garden or hanging out in his house — nothing particularly out of the ordinary for a pet cat, but it's Pico's unusual eyes that have brought him so much attention.

Images and videos show the feline's huge, wide eyes that stand out in his face due to their unusual colourings. Rather than the almond-shaped pupils we often see in cats, Pico's eyes are a mixture of pale blue, purple and white, calling to mind a colourful galaxy out in the universe.

In a TikTok video explaining Pico's situation, his owner said the cat used to have 'beautiful green eyes', but that one day his family noticed that they had started to change colour. They took Pico to the vet and learned he had 'feline glaucoma', though thankfully Pico didn't show any signs of being in pain as a result.

The owner explained that Pico's family would be prepared to operate if he did show signs of pain, but five years after his diagnosis he continues to have remained the same despite having lost his eyesight, prompting his owner to describe his experience as a 'miracle'.

Though Pico is often seen with wide eyes in his images, his owner explained they aren't always like that and in fact only typically widen when he is outside 'or when he hears the bag of treats'. Pico is an inside cat, but he is taken outside for 'a nice walk' every day and the owner admitted Pico is 'very spoiled', saying, 'We give him all the love and attention.'

She added, 'If we ever see him in pain or a change of behaviour he will go to the vet ASAP.'

Some social media users appear to have accused Pico's family of 'abusing' the cat, but the owner assured them he is 'very happy' and that she would 'never hurt him or let him suffer'.

Thankfully, Pico also receives a lot of more supportive comments from fans, who have described him as 'beautiful' and dubbed him 'Cosmo cat'.
