Chris Evans has reminded the world that ‘Sam Wilson is Captain America’ in a new tweet.
Evans was responding to the news that Captain America 4 finally has a director in Julius Onah and his five-word tweet seemingly confirms he won’t be making an appearance in the upcoming blockbuster.
Captain America 4’s director is best known for 2018’s The Cloverfield Paradox and the new Marvel flick will be penned by Falcon and the Winter Soldier writers Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson.
It’s also been confirmed that Anthony Mackie will star in the film as Sam Wilson.

On Friday (8 July), The Hollywood Reporter tweeted about the news that Captain America 4 is finally in the works, noting: “It is unclear if Chris Evans would reprise his role as the first #CaptainAmerica (though if the question of who is entitled to carry the shield continues, all bets are off).
“Having stacked casts in solo outings is a key Marvel ingredient at this point.”
Evans replied to the tweet a day later, writing: “Sam Wilson is Captain America.”
The actor’s reply won’t come as much of a surprise to Marvel heads, who will be well aware that at the end of 2021’s Falcon and the Winter Soldier series, Wilson finally accepted the shield Steve Rogers gave him and took up the Captain America mantel.

That said, while promoting his latest film Lightyear last month during an interview with Comicbook.com, Evans suggested he might one day consider reprising the role of Captain America.
Evans noted that there is one mission Captain America fans would love to see the superhero carry out.
At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Captain America returned each infinity stone to its proper point in time, however, the mission took place off screen.

Acknowledging fans would love to see Rogers actually replace the stones, Evans said that bringing Rogers back would still be a ‘tall order’.
He explained: "I don't want to disappoint anybody but it's tough to... It was such a good run and I'm so happy with it.
"It's so precious to me. It would have to be perfect. It just would be scary to rattle something that is, again, so, so dear to me. That role means so much to me. So, to revisit it, it would be a tall order."
In January 2021, reports circulated that Evans would reprise his role as Captain America, adding that the actor was in talks with Marvel Studio bosses to negotiate a deal.

However, Evans shut down the rumours, tweeting shortly after articles were published: “News to me.”
