Disturbing footage shows two burglars opening a family's Christmas presents just before murdering them as they returned home

In the footage the two burglars go through all the Christmas presents, only to murder the family when they arrived home

Chilling footage shows a pair of burglars opening the presents that a family had laid out for Christmas.

It was December 22 1990, just three days before Christmas, when two men broke into a woodland cabin in Utah.

The cabin belonged to the Tiede family, who had everything laid out for the festive season.

But the family was shattered when Von Lester Taylor, 25, and Edward Deli, 21, broke into their cabin.

Both men had been on parole and were lying in wait as the family returned to the remote cabin, which was only accessible on foot or by snowmobile during the winter.

In a chilling video captured on the family's camcorder, the pair go through the presents which had been lying under the tree ready for Christmas day.

One rips open a package in a chillingly calm state, revealing an album of baseball cards.

When the family arrived home, the two men turned on them.

Linae, 20, had to watch as the men shot dead her mother Kaye Tiede and her grandmother Beth Potts, neither of whom survived.

She and her younger sister Tricia, 16, both saw the two men shoot their dad Rolf, before they were kidnapped by the men.

The two killers also poured petrol over Rolf before setting him on fire and fleeing with their hostages.

However, in an extraordinary effort, Rolf was able to get into a shower cubicle where he could take off his burning clothes and extinguish the flames.

As a result of his quick effort Rolf survived the ordeal.

The two killers had also set the upper floor of the cabin on fire in an attempt to destroy the evidence of their crimes.

Horrifying photos from the crime scene show blood which had leaked through the floor and frozen into red icicles in the low temperatures.

Making their escape, they forced the sisters to each pilot one snowmobile down the mountain with the killers riding behind.

Linae and Tricia's uncle Randy Zorn had been down at the gate of the property and waved at the pair as they went past with the killers.

They ignored him so the killers wouldn't realise that he was related.

When they got to a parking lot nearby the killers forced their captives off the snowmobiles and into the family's car.

Randy saw the car moving away, before seeing a third snowmobile coming down the hill.

He realised that the person on the snowmobile was his brother, suffering from bad burns.

Randy immediately called emergency services to track down the killers and his nieces and get his brother airlifted to hospital.

After a chase in which they evaded a number of roadblocks, the killers were eventually apprehended by police.

Deli was sentenced to life in prison while Taylor received the death sentence, and is still in jail more than 30 years later before the sentence is carried out.
