Bodycam footage released as police officer resigns after locking himself in backseat of car with female detainee

Bodycam footage released as police officer resigns after locking himself in backseat of car with female detainee

The San Diego cop claimed he accidentally locked himself in responding to a perceived medical emergency

A police officer has resigned after locking himself in the back of his car with a female detainee and not calling for help for 20 minutes - and now bodycam footage of the incident has been released.

San Diego officer Anthony Hair left the police around a month after a probe was launched following the incident in August 2023.

Hair locked himself in the back of a car - he claims accidentally - with the female suspect, who had propositioned him for sex.

He arrested the woman, who has not been named, outside of a convenience store on suspicion of car theft with one other person.

Following her arrest, Hair took her to police headquarters, and then later to the Las Colinas Detention Center for questioning.

In footage released by SDPD, the suspect was heard asking the officer for sex, followed by whether he was married.

You can watch the bodycam video below (it contains some strong language):

In the recording, she said: “You’re not too bad.

“What’s it gonna hurt me if I work the system, you know what I mean?

“That’s the way I see sh**.

“Are you single?”

Hair replied ‘yeah, but you’re not’.

She told the officer that she was ‘down to f***’, before he quickly stopped her saying: “Don’t say that right now…don’t say that right now because everything is being recorded right now.”

As they approached the detention centre, the officer could be heard asking the detainee what she was doing on the backseat, before turning off his bodycam, slowing his vehicle, and driving onto a residential street.

After 20 minutes, Hair called a fellow officer to come and help them, after realising the pair were locked in the back of the vehicle together.

The unidentified officer said: “I asked him if he was OK.

“He said yes, and then asked if I had my patrol car key with me…I asked why he was asking and what did he need.

“Officer Hair then asked me If I could go meet him.

“He said he was really embarrassed.”

Hair reported to police that he was helping the woman after he believed she was suffering from a medical emergency.

Both he and the suspect deny that anything happened in the back of the vehicle, however traces of semen were found on the officer’s belt.

The suspect said: “He wanted to get with me when I was done with the warrant or whatever I got arrested for.”

It’s unclear if he faces any criminal charges over the incident.
