It's often said that in life, you get what you pay for, but when it comes to fast food, people expect it to be cheap.

Now, one Five Guys customer has shared their outrage at being charged $74 for their meal - sparking a pretty intense debate online.

Taking to TikTok to share their outrage, TikToker @retailcheapskate described the price as a 'highway robbery' and explained that it cost them $74 for a fairly modest fast food meal.

"WHEN DID FIVE GUYS BECOME A FIVE STAR RESTAURANT?!" they wrote over the now-viral TikTok. "This is four hamburgers, two fries and drinks."

For obvious reasons, the video went far from unnoticed on the social media platform, and at the time of writing, the outraged fast food fan's video has been viewed 1.6 million times since it was posted last month.

However, if the comments section is anything to go by, viewers were completely divided about the price.

One viewer revealed: "We actually had to stop eating here because it is too expensive for a family of four."

The TikToker revealed they spent a staggering $74 on a Five Guys meal.

"Just a burger, small fries and small drink add to over $20. I will never go there again," chimed a second.

"It's so damn expensive. Can't take my family either. It's special occasion food!" wrote a third, while a fourth added: "Everything is getting expensive not just 5 guys."

"Oh yeah we stopped eating at Five Guys," chimed a fifth. "Super greasy and way too expensive. There are better burgers for cheaper."

However, some viewers were more critical of the TikToker and said the price was fair and accurate.

One slammed: "You are paying [for] fresh high-quality beef, never frozen, a very large burger, very large fresh cut fries. Food costs have gone up about 30%."

Another suggested that the price should have been expected, writing: "It's 4 cheese burgers. 2 with bacon. And one was a double. 2 fries and 3 drinks."

Do you think Five Guys is worth the price?

"I see 3 burgers 2 fries and 4 sodas... sounds correcy [sic]," added a third while a fourth joked: "that's what happens when you go to a place with all fresh ingredients, never frozen meat and quality food lol [sic]."

A fifth remarked: "Yeah, but those fries are bomb. No one does them better."

"Why y'all complaining?" questioned a sixth. "These burgers are actually worth the price. I don't mind paying for something that is really good."
