Over $20 for a burger, fries, and drink? We may be in a cost of living crisis but is that all that is to such soaring prices? Five Guys own has weighed in.
We've all been there - craving a burger and fries and wanting it fast and cheap. Alas, you may've got the perfect taste you were after if you stumbled into a Five Guys, but your wallet may've taken a hit.

Now, don't get me wrong; I am a huge fan of their greasy, delicious burgers. and the genius marketing of overloading their french fries to make you feel like they've given you extra fries.
Sometimes it can even be hard to justify splashing all that cash on a burger and fries when you're ordering a takeaway with Uber Eats for example - where you'll pay more on top for delivery.
Unfortunately for the fast food chain, which, to its credit, produces incredible burgers and fries, customers have taken to social media to slam the company following unfortunate experiences.
I will add that they really just mention how they felt their bill was extortionate - nobody can fault the goods they provide.

A number of users on Twitter have complained about the prices getting 'out of hand'.
One user wrote: "Five Guys has better fries and burgers [than Shake Shack], but the prices have gotten way out of hand to the point it is special occasion eating instead of weekly post-pandemic. Shake Shack is good and won't bankrupt you."
While another messaged the burger joint on the platform, writing: "Lower your prices, ya’ll have gotten out of hand."

With a third typed: "Tbh he totally has a point. Five Guys prices have gotten really out of hand in the past couple years. One person, burger and drink (no fries), close to $20."
But the people behind Five Guys have defended their prices and said it is more than worth it.
"People come to Five Guys for a simple, great American burger. And that’s what they will get here," Iain Ross-Mackenzie, director of operations-APAC at Five Guys, International told TRP.

When asked, Iain noted that Five Guys will not be 'localising' their flavors unlike other burger chains that introduce specialty flavours; think the McSpicy Paneer in an Indian McDonald's, or bamboo shoots and lotus root with your Chinese KFC chicken.
But why do Five Guys charge so much for its relatively small menu?
"Nothing in store is frozen. We only ever use fresh ingredients," Iain explained.
"Five Guys is your regular burger joint, where you know the people and the food and we know you and your preferences," Iain said.
