A woman has shared what happens to fast food when you leave it out for a long time, and spoiler alert it isn't pretty.
Going out for a cheeky bit of fast food is a pleasure many of us enjoy, whether it's because you need something quickly, don't want to cook, or perhaps overindulged on the organic wines and IPAs.
It's fair to say that most of us are aware that it's not good for us, but one person has done an experiment which shows the impact of the preservatives in the fast food many of us enjoy.

And there is one aspect of it which is especially disturbing.
Jennifer Lovdahl from Anchorage in Alaska has kept hold of a meal consisting of chicken nuggets and fries.
Many of us might throw out that meal the following day, or least the leftovers, but not Jennifer who has kept hers for a whopping six years.
Yes, you did indeed read that correctly, she has chicken nuggets which are old enough to legally sell as whisky in the UK, if they were a spirit aged in an oak cask, of course.

So, what could these chicken nuggets possibly look like to be considered so disturbing?
Well, it's not so much that they've transformed into a putrid ooze the whiff of which would put a bull elephant into a coma.
It's more that, aside from looking a bit dry, they haven't really changed that much at all, though they're probably only good for making shoes now.

Jennifer said: "It's been six years since I bought this 'Happy Meal' at McDonald's.
"It's been sitting at our office this whole time and has not rotted, molded, or decomposed at all! It smells only of cardboard."
She added that she thinks the 'box will decompose before the food does', and taking a look at the box and the receipt, the nuggets do look in better shape.

Jennifer works as a chiropractor, and hopes that the experiment will show her patients just how unhealthy fast food can be.
She said: “We did this experiment to show how patients how unhealthy fast ‘food’ is. Especially for our growing children!
“There are so many chemicals in this food! Choose real food! Apples, bananas, carrots, celery… those are real fast food.”
So, if you were wondering what happens to chicken nuggets after six years, the answer seems to be 'not much'.
