One person's picture of what they could buy at McDonald's from the dollar menu has everyone saying the same thing.
It's no secret that the last few years have seen more or less every expense for living getting higher.
Fast food outlets were hit by multiple factors which raised their overheads.

Oil is a big factor, both the petroleum kind and the cooking kind.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine, a major producer of sunflower oil, saw the price of cooking oil rise - bad news for any business which rely on cooking oil to operate.
Rising fuel prices impact many aspects of business from transporting supplies to the cost of keeping the fryers running.
So it's perhaps small surprise that the cost of eating at McDonald's has gone up so much.

Looking at the spread of food and drink in the picture, you could be forgiven for thinking that this was from a very long time ago, though you might be mistaken.
The caption on the post reads: "This was everything you could buy on the dollar menu at McDonalds in 2019, think I spent less than $15 after tax."
Yes, that was what you could get at McDonald's for $15 just four years ago.

Though in fairness, it might literally be four years but in terms of how much the world has changed it feels more like 400 years.
So. what exactly can you get for your money here?
Well going off a visual reference, there are two McDoubles, a cheeseburger, a McChicken burger, four chicken nuggets, two slices of pie, a portion of fries, a sweet 'n' sour dipping sauce, and a McFlurry.
That's a whole lot for your money.

Many people were all saying the same thing about today's prices.
One wrote: "Real restaurants are so much better than fast food now in terms of value, always were in terms of quality."
A second posted: "The only justifiable reason I had to eat fast food before was that it was cheap and convenient. The cheap is gone and the convenience isn’t enough to keep me coming back."

A third said what we're all thinking: "It's hard to overstate how much the 2020's have sucked."
The dollar menu is still available at McDonald's, with there being a selection of items priced at either $1, $2, or $3. However, to use the dollar menu you have to either go to a location or order through the McDonald's app.
