People are flocking to social media to discuss Waffle House's 'To-Go' fee, and it's fair to say a lot have been left rather confused.

Tipping culture is very much a thing in the US, and is a topic that has dominated social media in recent weeks and months.

Some food-providing outlets automatically charge what is known as a service fee, something that is usually set in stone and not chosen by the customer.

Waffle House announced such a service fee in 2018 for a 'To-Go' order.

A tweet from the company read: "Waffle House does charge a 10% service charge on all to-go orders.

"Before implementing this policy, we found most other businesses in our industry either figure the charges into their everyday menu board prices or use a separate menu for to-go orders."

It appears that 20 percent is popping up a lot more nowadays though, as one note posted written by the restaurant posted on Reddit revealed.

It said: "A 20 percent fee is added to all 'To-Go' orders. 10 percent is paid to the server who prepares the oder and 10 percent is a 'To-Go' fee."

While the company has made it pretty clear where the extra money ends up going to, many people are struggling to understand what exactly this 'To-Go' malarky is all about.

"A way to make more money," one user on Reddit penned.

A second added: "I’d give myself a 100% discount by not buying anything from there."

Meanwhile, a third remarked: "Businesses are losing their minds lately. Surprised we haven't seen restaurants launch a subscription service, some kind of dining club you pay for monthly that gets you free napkins or something."

'To-Go' fees have confused a lot of people.

One worker who may have took advantage of the 'To-Go' fee is Lana Del Rey, as she was spotted working there earlier this year.

The 38-year-old was filmed behind a counter at the restaurant in the city of Florence wearing the Waffle House uniform, complete with a name badge, the full lot.

As you can imagine, customers were shocked to find the multi-award-winning singer/songwriter pouring coffees and taking orders - but Del Rey was enjoying every minute as she happily posed for photos with fans.

Karina Cisneros Juarez managed to get a photo with the star - sharing it on Facebook with the caption: “To say I am ecstatic is an understatement!!!

“I have been a huuuge fan of Lana Del Rey for over a decade, so meeting her today was truly insane.”

UNILAD has contacted Waffle House for comment.
