The top 100 worst-rated foods in the world have been revealed, but unless you frequent Lapland, you may never have heard of the unfortunate number one pick.
If you’re a die-hard foodie, you may already be familiar with the online food guide, TasteAtlas.
The website, founded by Matija Babić in 2018, describes itself as a ‘world atlas of traditional dishes, local ingredients, and authentic restaurants’ and is known for its detailed global food maps and restaurant guides.
Every year, employees at TasteAtlas embark on the mammoth task of compiling lists featuring the world’s best and worst dishes.

On Tuesday (July 16), the site analyzed 335,106 dish rankings by TasteAtlast users and used data to outline the 100 least-liked dishes in 2024.
Foods such as devilled kidneys, sweet potato pudding and even Marmite on toast have found themselves in the top 50 worst-rated foods.
Meanwhile, jellied eels made eighth place, the calorific Luther burger came in seventh and Thai Fish Entrails Sour Curry bagged the number six spot.
We know you’re itching to know, so below we’ve outlined the top five worst-ranked dishes on TasteAtlas.

But before we jump in, please remember that these rankings are just subjective and shouldn’t define a dish’s appeal.
5. Yerushalmi Kugel
Despite originating in the Jerusalem District of Israel in the 1700s, Yerushalmi Kugel remains a staple of Shabbat and various other Jewish holidays.

The savory casserole is made using thin cooked noodles or angel hair pasta coated in caramelized sugar.
Eggs, neutral oil, black pepper and kosher salt are then added to the mixture before the Yerushalmi Kugel is placed in the oven to bake.
It appears however that TasteAtlas users aren’t a fan of the traditional dish as it earned fifth place on the recently-published worst dishes in the world list.
4. Chlebová polévka (Czech bread soup)

Another classic dish that users apparently aren’t a fan of is Czech bread soup.

According to the site, this traditional dish is commonly cooked in the home and is prepared using stale bread, water, onions and a myriad of spices.
However, some establishments like to meat, cheese and noodles to the concoction while others like to go a step further and eat the soup out of a loaf of bread.
3. Bocadillo de sardinas

TasteAtlas users really hate the humble sardine sandwich, having rated it as the worst sandwich/wrap in the world and the number one most-hated Spanish dish.
The classic sandwich consists of a Spanish-style baguette sliced lengthwise and stuffed with tinned sardines.
Those chowing down on the grub tend to add the likes of peppers, tomatoes and lettuce for taste, while others are partial to a boiled egg or two and some sautéed vegetables, and olive oil.
Despite it carrying a measly 1.9 star rating, one user has hailed the bocadillo de sardinas as an ‘underrated’ snack.
So maybe don’t knock it until you’ve tried it, hey?
2. Hákarl
Fancy a little bit of rotten shark for starters, anyone?
Arguably Iceland’s most famous dish is hákarl - a national delicacy made from cured Greenland shark flesh.
This unique dish sees the meat being fermented for up to three months before curers hang it up and leave it to dry for another four or five months.
After the meat has done its time, the hákarl will be cubed before being served on toothpicks alongside a shot of local spirit known as brennivin.
Unfortunately, it appears that not many are enamored by the dish as it’s the second-worst rated on the website.
1. Blodpalt
It’s official - blodpalt has been rated as the worst dish in the world by TasteAtlas users.
Originating in northern parts of Finland and Sweden, blodpalt is essentially a dumpling made from barley or rye flour, grated raw potatoes and added blood.
In Lapland, it’s traditional to use reindeer blood while other variations add sautéed onions and diced bacon.
Blodpalt dumplings are often enjoyed as a side dish and some serve it in a soup.
Sounds yummy, right?
