Scientists discover unexpected health problem from vaping that can ruin your sex life

Your bad habit could be giving you some issues in the bedroom, too...

While evidence continues to highlight the damages caused by vaping, new research has revealed the bad habit has another side effect, too.

While research into the long-term effects are still in its infancy, we know vaping isn't exactly good for our health.

News reports continue to highlight horror stories of damage caused by the e-cigarettes, like one teen who almost died from 'brain swelling' after sharing her vape on a night out, while one man had a one percent chance of survival after becoming addicted to vaping.

Another 17-year-old had to have surgery to remove part of her lung while others report more common side effects such as 'vape tongue' where the nicotine-filled device essentially kills off your taste buds.

Despite the warnings, countless Americans have turned to vaping as a healthier alternative to smoking cigarettes - although even this is currently under review as scientists determine if it may actually be 'more dangerous' than smoking.

Early evidence even suggests some electronic vapes could be even more addictive than smoking, as certain types can dispense nicotine into the bloodstream faster.

Now, however, there's another blow for vape fans in terms of its unwanted side effects.

If 'vape tongue' isn't enough to put you off, researchers have found it could also be having a knock-on effect when getting intimate.

According to scientists at New York University, vaping doubled the risk of erectile dysfunction (ED) in men age 20 and older, reports UCLA Health.

In the study, 13,700 men reported they were more than twice as likely to experience ED when using e-cigarettes every day, as opposed to those who had never vaped.

ED is a common side effect among smokers too, due to the effects of nicotine on the vascular system. However, researchers found the higher chances of ED in regular vapers a surprise.

Dr Babak Ashrafi, a Superdrug Online Doctor, also claims inhaling the toxic substances in a vape could also harm sperm quality, as shown in studies on rats that have reportedly linked the chemicals in the liquids with the lower sperm count.

This is because vaping can alter blood flow and endothelial function, reports the Mirror, essentially jeopardizing your chances at getting an erection and keeping it up.

Doctors also say vaping could be causing a drop in testosterone levels, hampering libido while ramping up the risk of ED.

As for its side effects on women's sexual health, research is again limited on how much it can affect fertility.

However, some studies have found vaping can have the same effect as smoking when it comes to making periods more likely to be irregular and painful.

The toxins in vapes could also enter the body and potentially damage ovarian follicles and reduce egg quality.

And that's not including its possible mental health side effects and cardiovascular risks.

The warning comes as researchers from Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK recently found vaping could be worse than smoking due to how addictive they are - and how much more accessible they are to consume.

Dr Maxime Boidin, Senior Lecturer in Cardiac Rehabilitation, told The Mirror: "Smokers tend to go outside and smoke, and once a cigarette is finished they have to light up another to keep going.

"But with vapes, you just keep going and it's much harder to know how many puffs you've had. It's much easier to vape continuously because you can do it in places where smoking might be less acceptable.

"What we have found is the dangers for someone who keeps vaping are no different from smokers."
