Social media users who have abandoned Twitter have flocked to a new platform which just hit an incredible milestone.
The mobile-friendly app Hive now has one million users and it has made its way to the top of the App store in the UK.
Hive works in a similar way to Twitter in that you can ‘follow’ and ‘unfollow’ accounts and ‘like’ and ‘repost’ the content you like.

Users of the app can also comment on content and explore posts shared under hashtags.
You can also share images and videos, GIFs, polls and have profile music.
The social media platform was created in 2019 and according to Hive Social’s website, it brings back ‘what you used to love about social media in a new way'.

According to app’s about us page, Hive Social’s founder ‘Raluca’ was ‘tired of the restrictions she faced on social platforms in which her posts were not seen by many friends and felt pressures of complicated algorithms’.
Unlike Elon Musk’s Twitter, Hive is not timeline-based and lets users follow a range of topic-based communities including Science, Tech, Cars, Music, Fashion, Pets, Crafts, Books, Travel, Gaming, Art and Food.
Hive Social doesn’t have a customised algorithm like other social media apps and developers have instead opted for a chronological feed instead which does not sell adverts.

The app also has a strict anti-hate speech policy as outlined on its website. “Hive prohibits its users to encourage violence or attack anyone based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, disabilities, or diseases.”
A rather ironic tweet from the Hive Social Twitter page confirmed it had hit one million users, many of whom are undoubtedly former Twitter users.
The tweet reads: “1,000,000 Besties and the number keeps climbing Thank you to everyone who has followed us, joined, shared their Hive posts and profiles, invested in our WeFunder, and overall just given us such an incredible amount of support!”

People have been vocal about their disappointment in the direction Twitter is heading after Musk's $44bn takeover last month.
Musk has given former US president Donald Trump his Twitter account back after holding a poll of users on the site.
The Tesla CEO had previously reinstated a number of other banned accounts, including that of Jordan Peterson who was banned earlier this year after making transphobic comments about the actor Elliot Page.
There have also been huge shakeups at Twitter since the billionaire took control, having issued staff an ultimatum last week, telling them to either agree to conform to his six rules of 'insane productivity' or get out.
