The housing market is absolutely bonkers at the moment, with renters around the world being squeezed for every penny they've got.

So it should come as no surprise to you that even the smallest apartment in New York is going for an absolute fortune. Have a look for yourself:

Ovi Lazari is a luxury real estate agent in the city, working on some of the most exclusive - and most expensive - apartments around.

But in a break from the norm, he offered to show fellow estate agent, Jonah, around the tiniest flat available, which he revealed was on the market for $1,975 (£1,651) a month.

And the word 'tiny' cannot be overstated.

In the video, Jonah walks through the door into what can only be described as a cupboard, with just one window, a mini-fridge, a cupboard and a sink.

    That's. It.

The flat was available for almost $2,000 a month.

But where's the toilet and the shower, you may ask.

Well, they are down the hallway, where they are shared with the rest of the tenants in the building.

Posting the video, Ovi captioned it: "You should've seen his face when he found out the bathroom is in the hall."

Condemning the housing market in the city, one user said: "U basically can’t rent 1 beds/studios in New York anymore u have to find roommates."

Echoing the outrage, another added: "This gotta be illegal."

"You cannot convince me NYC is worth it. Why? Why do this? Someone from the city tell me why you do this. No food, club, or bar is worth this," put a third.

While another added: "That's a closet with a window."

Jonah also posted his video of the tour, and revealed that the spacious dwelling was located in Greenwich Village, in Lower Manhattan.

At least it comes with a sink?!

But this is by no means the only shoebox in the city.

Earlier this year, Ron Ervin shared a video of his 100sqft flat, which he pays $950 a month for the privilege of living in.

Ervin shared his video in response to another viral video shared by TikToker Alex Webber, who claimed to have the smallest apartment in New York.

He was quick to prove Webber wrong, with the charming video opening, 'Surprise b*tch, a challenger has appeared', before commenting on the fact Webber can fit a queen-size mattress in his apartment.

Ervin says: "This guy has a queen-size mattress in his apartment. If I brought a queen-sized mattress into my New York apartment, it would crush me to death."

He then proceeds to give a 360-degree tour of his apartment, which is essentially a small hallway.

Joking about the size of his apartment, Ervin says: "Right, grand tour, everybody ready?"
