John Wayne Gacy Had Huge Last Meal On Death Row

The details of John Wayne Gacy's final meal were revealed in the Netflix true crime seires

John Wayne Gacy, the subject of Netflix's new true crime documentary, had a pretty hefty last meal before being executed on death row.

Gacy, who was dubbed the 'Killer Clown', sexually assaulted and murdered at least 33 young men between 1972 and 1976 and has become Netflix's latest true crime docu-series, Conversations With A Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes, which dropped on 20 April.

Take a look at the trailer below:

Scouring through 60 hours of audio between Gacy and his defence team, the docu-series unearths chilling details about the killer and his horrific crimes.

It is revealed that his sinister nickname, the 'Killer Clown', came from Gacy's habit of dressing up as his 'alter-ego', Pogo the Clown. Although he didn't kill his victims dressed up as Pogo, his clown identity became a solid part of his community when he would dress up and entertain his neighbours and their children.

The killer was eventually caught and sentenced for his crimes - which he showed no remorse for - in 1980 and would go on to spend 14 years on death row.

In the weeks building up to his death, according to the Netflix series, Gacy said: "Hey I got news for you. I killed 33 times, you’re only gonna kill me once. Gacy outsmarted ‘em again," proving once again his lack of remorse for what he did.

Gacy was executed by lethal injection on May 10, 1994 and unbelievably, his last words were according to reports: "Kiss my ass."

Of course, regardless of the severity of an inmate's crimes, those on death row always get the opportunity to order whatever they want for their final meals before their executions - and Gacy was no exception. The killer was given his final opportunity to choose his pre-execution meal and it had some relation to his earlier life, which the docu-series touched upon.

It all seemed to stem from when Gacy married his first wife, Marlynn Myers, in 1964. Her father owned a spate of KFC branches and the killer would go on to become manager of the three restaurants.

He was said to be such a fan of the fast-food chain, that he insisted on being called 'colonel' by those around him.

The restaurant was also how Steve Nemmers, a survivor of Gacy who gave a first-hand account of his experience in the Netflix series, met the killer. Nemmers was friends with someone who worked at one of the KFC stores that Gacy managed.

So, as for his final meal? He went for a bucket of original recipe chicken from nowhere other than KFC, 12 pieces of fried shrimp, fries, and a pound of strawberries.

Conversations with a Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes is available to stream on Netflix now.
