One electronic duo ruled the 2010s and promptly seemed to drop off the face of the planet, which has made us wonder, what the f*** happened to LMFAO?

Look, the early 2010s were an awkward time, with terrible fashion, swept over fringes, and limited internet.

The one saving grace of this god-awful time? Cheesy throwbacks that still slap - like LMFAO and their entire discography.

Back in the day, the pair, who are uncle and nephew in real life, were so popular that their hit 'Party Rock Anthem' is still No 7 on Billboard's Greatest of All Time Hot 100 Songs.

So, what happened to the duo?

Well, as it turns out a lot. The pair - Redfoo (Stefan Gordy) and his nephew Sky Blu (Skyler Gordy) - were going strong for years, even performing with Madonna at the Superbowl in 2012.

But just before this milestone, Sky Blu, who now goes by 8ky, suffered a back injury and the pair decided to go on hiatus.

At the time, RedFoo insisted that everything was fine: "I feel like we’ve been doing this for so long, five or six years.

“And we’re kind of like saying, well, let’s just do what’s natural and just kind of explore that, instead of like forcing it all the time."

But things didn't seem so cut and dry for 8ky.

RedFoo's nephew took to Facebook in 2016 to vent. He said: "Thoughts From The 8ky. I've been wanting to speak my truth about this whole LMFAO situation for a looooooooong time.

"Out of respect to our family I kept it all to myself. I woke up this morning excited to plan the release of my album that has been two years in the making, but then I get a call from my lawyer telling me you say you own all my LMFAO royalties.

"Different things like this would go on all the time when you know we are 50/50 across the board. The way you belittle people and your crazy power trips was some of the main reasons our relationship as family and partnership has greatly suffered."

He went on to add: "As someone who really cared, loved and had your back this really hurt.....I mean...you're my uncle!! My blood!!!

"You even kept touring as LMFAO and made a lot of money doing it. You never once called me to ask me how I was recovering you just kept shuffling everyday without me."

UNILAD has reached out to 8ky and RedFoo for comment.

It's now 10 years on from their hiatus, and the pair haven't yet released new music together - although both have released solo albums.
